I think this is a very brave thing the Mayor has done. You only live once, and life is entirely too short not to take those once in a lifetime chances. I wish him and his partner only the best. I'm a straight female, but I believe that love can be shared between same sex partners. Who are we to deny them their afforded rights and priveleges.

I have looked around and 365gay.com while not perfect (if you find perfect anything on some other planet in this galaxy or the next, please let us all know because perfect "anything" doesn't exist on planet Earth)
is the ONLY site that I found thus far (after Googling) that reports and updates domestic and foreign GLBT news Mon through Friday several times a day. It operates on a shoestring, has only one person on its staff, and has writers that contribute whatever they can, when they can.

Sometimes, new volunteer writers have to be found because of burnout due to frequently caustic and harsh comments that get lobbed its way.

Noone thanks 365gay.com, just criticizes it.

The gay community is often low on thanks, consideration and respect, and often high on the caustic, the harsh and on ridicule.

There is precious little out there to equal 365gay.com. Remember we are a minority community and because we are such, the volume of fresh news we generate fills smaller newspapers than does the news generated by the majority community. So, consequently there will be some repeating here and there of the same stuff, but each of the "same stuff" type items does eventually with time evolve forward.

But, all things considered, even though 365gay.com will never please everyone and is not all things to all GLBT people, it does make a reasonable effort to update the news several times a day. Compared with community newspapers like The Washington Blade etc (the one I am most familiar with as it is from my metropolitan DC area)give you news only once a week (as does The Washington Blade) or whenever it is that some gay city paper is issued.

To me this is an actual news site with contributing columnists and with a comment section. By comparison, Pam's House Blend is to me merely a running commentary of the world mostly according to Pam Spaulding and people responding to her comments and her views but with no contributing columnists and unlike 365gay.com no news site style layout with various sections and categories of interest. To call 365gay.com a blog-site is simplistic and does not take into account how it is broken into sections like Home, News, Opinions, Blog (has a blog, but in itself the whole site is not a blog), Living, Watch Video, Topics, Breaking News, Most Recent Stories, Recent Comments, Poll (even though it is one that is slow to change)Today On, just like any news service or newspaper might.

R. Zeke Fread Said: "I’m tired of so-called national GLBT Orgs, deciding what they feel is best for our community as a whole."

Michael W Said: "I am so glad the HRC thinks they can dictate what is important for the entire Gay Community. They’ve done such a fabulous job (sarcasm implied) for the past 10 years!!!!! If the rumors are true that really pisses me off!!!!!!!"

I can only hope this means that your eyes are opening to the state of the "Gay Orthodoxy," the self-styled gods and masters of this movement since as long as I can remember. Inclued are the ACLU & Lambda.

Powerbrokers. The ones who decide what sort of politically correct face should be permissible for mainstream America, the reason that the idea of a rightfully pissed off queer male is never seen in the media, and have omitted that voice for so long that even our own tribe have difficulty imagining it.

To them, equality is a long term investment in divisive politics, something that pays dividends to justify their existence for decades, not an actual political putsch to achieve something today that would relegate them to obsolescence tomorrow. were we to have equality today, they would continue tomorrow to use money and influence to steer the commercial "gay" identity to whatever economic sector they wanted us to consume in the guise of a "gay culture." Currently, the internet is the only free source of information that they are logistically unable to disarm, as same-sex people who want nothing to do with their agenda and commercial culture constitute "an escalating probability of disaster" for corporate exploitation.

Many have never heard of Bash Back, Gay Shame, or Queercore music. This is why. That which opposes the castrated, diffident image of same-sex attracted males (that the "gay orthodoxy" have deemed to be the only supplicant image that hetero America should see) is silenced, or more recently - bought off.

Im just glad that you recognize that you did not choose them, and they have no inherent right to speak or act for you. You are free to abandon them as "leaders" at will.

The schism from this tired block of autocrats is finally begnning to happen. Younger generations are looking at this mess and asking tough questions that could be categorically summarized as "wtf have you people been doing all this time" and more importantly "why were you doing it like this"?

Ultimately, grass roots activism is the only real activism left. The orthodoxy tries to quiet anything to controversial, control the flow of donations, or even use them to buy someone off and shut them up. Its up to the grass roots efforts to overcome and tell the power-broker organizations, their sponsors and liaisons to f*ck off.

Grass roots is all there really is. Everything else has become an army for the assimilation of minds and idolatry of a commercial culture that only exists to celebrate a ridiculous brand of consumerism.

Cultural hijacking happened with the demographics of young urban black males after their access to the mainstream, and if we dont wake up, it will happen with us also. Its already begun.

I'm glad someone other than I have noticed this site is not a news site, rather a blog-site.

This site does not report gay issues, as much as it comments on them. 365gay would be near perfect: if 365gay would combine the two.

Does anyone know of a 'real' gay news site?

"This is OLD ‘news.’"
"Very sloopy journalism I must say."
"This was old news a week ago."

Ee-gadz! you want old news that is many months old, try Larry Craig and his toilet stall not removed from the page for a very long time! And not ONE word when the staff returned of same-sex couples finally able to marry in Norway on New Year's Day of 2009. Old news now, but on January 5 of 2009 when staff returned still would of far greater impact (historically and internationslly speaking) in the timeline forward in 2009 of gay rights. The old toilet stall months later hung around 365 gay.com and you people complain after only a week or so of having to see the story of this town and this mayor? This is not the only story to be repeated.

And in addition this isn't OLD 'news' to some like me because I am reading this story for the first time of the mayor of San Angelo abruptly resigning so soon after being re-elected to his position to be with his partner. And how often does it occur to mayors of cities and towns around the USA of mayors suddenly taking off to do what he did especially to a foreign country and then mail home a resignation package and letter????

About the charge of sloppy journalism..how so and where in the article is it "sloppy?" Sloppy is sometimes in the eye of the beholder, not everyone here is agreeing on that. Not everyone here has majored for several years in journalism in college.

I see quotes from Mr. Lown himself, so he is essentially telling us himself via an article as to why he did what did.

He obviously had the sense to realize that his abrupt actions leaving from his job no sooner that he had been reelected without advance notice or warning would cause concern as to his whereabouts and if he was well and OK and that he needed to quickly address the issue of why he left. The story makes clear why, where and how and that is good enough for me. Anyone can make quickly understand what happened by the reading Mr. Lown's words as quoted in this story.
