Rudy a no-show at gay pals’ wedding

(New York City) When then-mayor Rudy Giuliani was forced to leave home during a nasty divorce in 2001, he was taken in by Howard Koeppel and his longtime partner Mark Hsaio.
He stayed for months with the couple in their $2.37 million dollar Manhattan home and invited the men to his wedding to Judith Nathan, the “other woman” who led to his divorce. That was when the mayor was appearing in drag at an LGBT rights event and touting his support for gay issues.
But now that Giuliani is making noises about a possible GOP run for governor, he isn’t quite so gay positive, even criticizing Democratic Gov. David Paterson for pushing a marriage equality bill. Giuliani said that he would support civil unions.
So when Koeppel and Hsaio were married over the weekend in Connecticut, their old pal was a no-show.
“Rudy and Judith were both invited with a beautiful written invitation by mail,” Koeppel told The New York Post.
But on Thursday, Giuliani had an aide call to say he would not be there.
The couple said the snub did not spoil their wedding.
“I danced at his wedding with [his wife] Judith [Nathan], and it would have been nice if he’d danced at mine,” Koeppel told The Post, adding, “I understand why he’s doing what he’s doing. If he decides to run for governor . . . he’s a Republican, and he’s taking a Republican stand” on same-sex marriage.

What did anybody expect. We’re good enough to count on in a pinch, but not good enough to honor. Rush might have found that offensive!
Screw Giuliani!?!?!? He should be so lucky…. lol
Congratulations to the happy couple! Koeppel is too kind in his comment… just another indication to the friend that he is. I do not know what their friendship is based on… but if Rudy was my friend… I would question it…
I had high hopes for Rudy within the Republican Party. What an utter disappointment. This from the man who appeared in a dress and wig on SNL. How is attending a wedding to a long-time committed couple and close-friends of his any more damaging to his career? If the opportunity presents itself again, I sincerely hope Rudy reconsiders…
If I were Mr. Koepple or Mr. Hsaio I would never speak to Mr. Giuliani ever again. He would also not be welcome in my home. He had an aid call them How RUDY of him.

Most Politicans Are Pigs — except a handful like Teddy Kennedy and few others. Courage and common decency is not the hallmark of most of these self-serving whores.

Hmmmmmm…kind of like OBAMA?
Err, I meant Corvino above.
Whatever Mr Sorvino says, right wingers are not your friends. They massage their guilt by nominally making your acquaintance but at the end of the day, they will feed you to the wolves.
Coming up on COUNTDOWN!
OPPORTUNIST
Screw Giuliani!!!! How ungreatful to shack up in someone’s home, because of his infidelities with his marriage, just because he’s a republican, does not mean that he should’ve been an ass about it.
Anyone tempted to vote for him should consider Rudy Giuliani’s moral cowardice and his lack of loyalty to two friends who opened their home to him to temper their judgement of his character.
Rudy, not my idea of a true and courageous friend. Political opportunist, all he is. True friendship rises above crass political considerations and it remembers always with gratitude kind deeds like the 4 months in this couples’ home. This couple is being a good sport about the whole thing. But, that doesn’t erase the obligation true friendship imposes on the heart and mind of the recipient of such true kindness. In other words, Rudy, this couple was far kinder to you than you are to them. And they didn’t really have to let you stay 4 months in their house. That is a true rarity. Those guys are truly exceptional for having a heart. I don’t konw any friends THAT generous in my own life.
Any way, you Rudy couldn’t be man enough to say screw political advantage, screw pleasing this and that political base, how fickle they are anyway…couldn’t be man enough to say these men did this for me and the least I can do is come to their wedding. And I Rudy, couldn’t give a rat’s butt who in my conservative base it pleased and who it offended.
Politics above people.
Gay friends make great friends, he just doesn’t want to see them wed. That’s so stereotypically Republican. How grateful of him.
Yes. That age old Republican stand called ‘hypocrisy.’
