Incognito,
I think Obama will get alot of resistance especially from GOP on this issue. If the polls say that majority of people in the millitary have a problem with gays being out, the GOP will use that against us. They are even resisting the damn stimulus package that is supposed to help the ailing economy, can you imagine what afield day they will have with DADT. Well, Obama promised to end DADT and he has to keep that promise. I'm not holding the marriage thing to his head because he didn't promise it.

What Pauliji Said...It is going to take way too long to convince each voter in each state to think rationally. It should not be up to whim of the majority to dictate the civil rights of a minority.

Thanks Jose-Vera, reading about how the policy came into place and how people deal with it now, it's still a heavily taboo subject. Being deployed lastyear, I can assure you that when it comes to situations of the like, if I'm in a fox hole with someone during a firefight, or even just residing there for safety, my mind is no where near thinking how attractive I may find that person, but how I can protect myself and the other person from any possible danger. However, many in the armed services feel (A majority that are polled) that in those certain circulmstances, that one would rather feel someone up than to look out for eachother's safety. There are even insanely immature and ignorant assumptions about the spread of HIV. Reading a daily post news paper, there was one poll urging not to dispose of the policy because having openly gay serving members of the military would mean HIV cases would be on the raise. We all know that you can't give HIV to someone just by breathing the same air as them. So why do people assume that Aids and HIV are a homosexual only disease?
In some cases, with this policy, it's a deciding that with some; "Why should I re-enlist if I must subject myself to such secrecy and boundries?" Many people use the DADT to eitherh get out (even if they are straight), or not to join to begin with (if they are gay.) There's a lot of tape with this policy, and doing away with it can be complicated, but I'm hopeful. One thing I'm confident about is that once the law is disposed of, it's not like every homosexual would just out themselves like some think. I can only hope that the ignorance will fade away someday. As much as I would like to educate someone about what it means to live my life, and educate ignorant and homophobic people in my work-center, I really don't care for committing career suicide prematurely... at least not until I win the lottery perhaps.

By the way, my other question still stands:

Other than the 58-70% of AA that voted yes on Prop 8, exactly how are white people in the gay community affected specifically by "black homophobia?" If Dan Savage or Andrew Sullivan or some of the other folks people on this thread who happen to white can explain the threat of "black homophobia" as opposed to "(implied white) homophobia" then I would love to hear it.

I am picking up on the down-low comment and running with it...that syndrome does NOT simply apply to homophobia. If you are a studious black kid, a lot of times you feel the pressure to play dumb or to keep your intelligence on the "down low." And, really, that has very little to do with homophobia.

Maybe this is too much dirty laundry. But...I am TIRED.

No pose here. Well, some people in my own family always accused me of posing white because I liked to read...and that goes back more than 35 years. Just because I am calling it as I see according to my experiences with my family and friends makes me self-loathing...oh, well, I can't stop you from thinking what you want.

I am not co-signing any bull[crap] from either side on this one.

I hate the homophobia in the black community, I hate the fact that I am isolated from my family because this.

The thing is, it won't be white folks (for the most part)that are beaten down in black communities

I love that in an anonymous blog someone can pose as a black person and proceed to spew racist remarks against AA so as not to be called out. How cowardly HAHAHAHA.

Angelo,

You need to study your history. There would not have been a "black arts" movement called the Harlem Renaissance without gays and lesbians of ALL COLORS. There would not have been a civil rights movement without the support of gays and lesbians of ALL COLORS.
