IT would seem that if you are true patriot that would die for this country in uniformm to defend our liberties you would not mind serving with other servicemen and women who happen to be gay, that alone shouldn't be a factor, it depends if you deeply feel in your heart that this country is worth defending. And if allwoing gays to serve will undermind unit cohesion it would not be the fault of the gays but of the straights since gays only make up a small minority in any given population, unless of course everyone in the military is a closet case waiting to come out with all flame and glory.

Said it before, I'll say it again. If you grew up in a conservative part of the country, especially the South or parts of the Plains, you understand the logic behind DADT. It acknowledges the reality in your face (there are gay servicemembers) with the presented ideal (homosexuality is wrong but we need enlistees). Of course it's hypocritical. If you've read or seen one Tennessee Williams play ("Cat On a Hot Tin Roof" comes to mind), then you understand exactly what I'm saying. Clinton is from that Baptist Deliverance Hell called Arkansas, and many (most?) enlistees are from a similar background (small-town, limited job options, going to church is more important than believing the sermon). Not saying all, but a large percentage. So, in that setting, you square the circle by saying that it's OK for something to exist as long as everyone denies that it exists. Unlike racial integration, you can stay in that denial mode for a very long time, which is why you have these old fossils winding themselves up even when they all know better.

To all of their points, I simply say, "Prove it." Show one shred of evidence that an openly gay person serving in the military does any of the things that they claim it does.

I'm really tired of our opponents making up scary stories about us, pulling them out of thin air (and their own prejudices), and then passing them off as well reasoned facts.

For example, if their claims were true, then we would see evidence of those things in the armies that allow openly gay people to serve. For example, in Israel. Good luck finding such evidence!

Is DADT a violation of a gay service member's constitutional right to marry if they are a resident of CT or MA? I would think so.

'Homosexuality is incompatible with military service' -- oh, but CONCEALED homosexuality (a la DADT) is just fine!

How stupid.

If our presence is so corrosive, ban us f*cking entirely, and be done with it.

Anyone who says that allowing gays to openly serve in the military will 'break the system' is obviously unpatriotic and probably a terrorist.

Any claim that our troops cannot handle having gays in their midst is a direct assertion that they are INFERIOR to the troops of every other country that allows gays to openly serve. None of which has had any major problems caused by gays. Seriously! What, our troops are really more scared of the rampant unrestrained homos trying to diddle them in a foxhole than the guys trying to blow them up with bombs? Those are the kinds of cowards they would rather have defending our freedom?

It's no news flash that there have ALWAYS been gays in the military. So why not end the double standard of saying you value honor and integrity then tell 10% of your people you want them to lie and pretend to be someone else. You're telling people you WANT them to directly violate the cadet's oath they swear when they enlist.

As long as DADT is kept in force then the majority of people dying in military service will always be the straights. Is that what the bigots really want then? I don't know what they really want.
