Of course, Obama did NOT pick a GLBT person for this position. He’d rather go through every ethnicity there is before doing that. GLBT people are only good for token positions so that he can count on our votes next time. Sad reality is, he’s still far better than the GOP.

It is very disappointing, because the LGBT community has very little voice in federal politics. There are only three openly gay people in Congress! There are no openly gay people in the Obama Cabinet. It should not be surprising then that we have such a hard time making our voices heard, because we really don’t have many voices in the halls of government.

It was reported today in the LA Times that Pres Obama will introduce Governor Locke as his nominee for Commerce Secretary. So much for an openly gay cabinet secretary. And 365gay.com, you should be more on top of breaking news

I’m in support of the diversity at the table, but honestly, I’m not sure that Fred Hochberg represents me particularly because he’s gay. Is he sensitive to racism and sexism? Is he trans-inclusive to the point where he uses gender neutral language? I’m not trans but my generation is all about being LGBT, not “gay and lesbian.”

Diversity is about more than tokens, it’s about representing opinions and experiences, and being biracial and bisexual and dating a transguy, I’m not sure I’m going to see it in Hochberg or any one other person on the cabinet in terms of genetics, but I’m hoping for it in beliefs. And that can come from a number of people.

Obama’s staff have heard of Hochberg already. They’ve said they’ll likely choose someone else and he seems to be a good pick for good reasons. So drop it already and stop whining because it just annoys people– you can’t win everything and there are lots of important things to work on, and it doesn’t help to annoy people in power when it’s a losing battle.

Carolyne and Jonathan, It is called diversity. There are a large pool of people that are qualified for each cabinet post. Some presidents would like the cabinet to reflect the diversity that is the USA. How would it look if all the cabinet were white christian men? Diversity matters because the administration should look like us all and it doesn’t.

When will the LGBT community finally come to grips with the fact that this president is not our friend. He does not believe in equality, period.
