Protest against anti-gay leader induction to Hall Of Fame

(Chicago, Illinois) A coalition of LGBT groups will protest the induction next month of James Dobson, the head of Focus on the Family, into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
Dobson and FOF are longtime opponents of LGBT civil rights with Dobson frequently speaking out against gays on his nationally syndicated radio show. He also is a proponent of the so-called ex-gay movement. The radio program appears on more than 1,000 stations across the country.
In a 2004 interview with The Daily Oklahoman newspaper Dobson said, “Homosexuals are not monogamous. They want to destroy the institution of marriage. It will destroy marriage. It will destroy the Earth.”
Dobson will be inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame on November 8 in Chicago.
The “ex-gay” movement, which claims homosexuality can be “cured” has been discredited by the American Psychiatric and the American Psychological associations.
Truth Wins Out, an LGBT group that opposes FOC’s “cure” methods has helped organize the demonstration and set up a website DumpDobson.com to pressure the Hall of Fame into rescinding its honor for Dobson.
The Gay Liberation Network and a coalition of Chicago human rights groups also are part of the protest.
The Hall of Fame said it intends to go ahead with the ceremony for Dobson and a half dozen other inductees.
“A broadcaster’s political, social or religious views never are considered when deciding to include or exclude a candidate. Likewise, the National Radio Hall of Fame does not endorse or support the views voiced by any nominee or inductee on the air or via any other platform,” said Hall of Fame chair Bruce DuMont in a statement.
Bob Schwartz of the Chicago-based Gay Liberation Network dispute’s DuMont’s reasoning.
“Bruce DuMont would never honor a Don Imus, disgraced for his anti-African American remarks,” Schwartz said “Nor would 1930s radio icon Father Charles Caughlin —the widely syndicated pro-Nazi and anti-Semite— be feted. Yet, in honoring James Dobson, Mr. DuMont appears to promote a ‘gay exception’ to the standards of public civility and decency rightly accorded other groups of people.”

Yuk Dobson – that guy is mentally ill. He probably reads “Mein Kampf” along with his bible.
What we need is a hall of shame for people like him. A sicko socio/psychopath, lost in his own internal hateful psychological drama.
Or is he just another of the Ted Haggards of the world? Wouldn’t be surprised
I have always thought that Hall of Fame’s were nothing more than a glorified beauty contest.
I have no idea why one would want to go to one. If you want to find about Radio and Television simply go to the Museum of Television and Radio or the Smithsonian.
Don Imus is already a member of the Hall of Fame.
You would think that “not lying” and “no hate mongering” would be criteria for induction…
He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. The criteria are not about the content of what he says. He is famous, and a lot of the sheep listen to his mad rantings. Let him have this; no one cares, anyway. Protest about things that matter.
Dobson and his hot air, he’ll be gone one day. He is not a young man anymore, he doesn’t have 40 years ahead of him to make our lives more miserable than he has already by poisoning millions of his radio listeners against us. Let the Hall of shame bring this ill-repute on themselves. Hall of Fame has no bearing on my life. Prop 8 in CA and 2 in FL have a lot of bearing on the future of gay rights in general in this country. Once these amendments pass, there will be no stopping the assaults on the rest of our rights until they are gone.
Stand firm against Prop 8 and 2 and donate so that the resources are there so that Equality California and Florida’s own equality group can educate enough of the public in their states to stop these cold at the polls.
Oh yes. This is worth boycotting.
Right?
Who in the hell cares about “Hall of Fames” anyway? Hall Of Fames are stupid, false inventions designed to give a small group of people a salary and maybe lure a really boring tourist or two to an otherwise undesirable local and sell them a t-shirt or mug.
They are like beauty pageants and raffles. They have no real meaning. I didn’t even know there was a radio Hall Of Fame.
Let’s put our activism towards something that matters, like No On Prop 8.
Don’t waste the energy on the idiot Dobson or some irrelevant, self important HOF. Who cares?
Is it just me, or does it seem that many of my fellow gays get all activisty over stupidity while being seemingly indifferent over stuff that matters.
dontcha mean HALL OF SHAME??????
