oh knowing how docile and sheep like the Gay Rights Movement has become it surprises me little if we all just slink back to our ghettos and suburbiavilles. I mean after all a boycott of that economic "giant" California certainly wouldn't do any good now would it. That would be faaaaaaar to radical for the homo mainstream. Yup folks let's just sit back and wish and hope on repeal referendums that WILL NEVER WORK. Hey if worse comes to worse you can all go weep into the arms of all of your straight allies.

My gut feeling is Prop. H8 will be upheld, but I hope I'm wrong. If it is, in 2010 and 2012 LGBT voters in California should band together and get as many signatures as possible to add a ballot initiative demanding the removal of tax-exempt status of all religious cults that advocate for, influence, contribute financially and support discrimination. Lets hit them where it hurts most, in their coffers for starters. Time to fight back and mean it.

If what Equality California says is correct, then it is no rumor that Tuesday may 26th 10 am Pacific time is the DAY OF DECISION from the court. I predict that the 18,000 same-sex marriages stay intact and in force but so does Prop 8 so that NO additional new marriages are possible for same-sex couples. In that case, that next likely step after Tuesday is to waste no time in getting a petition to remove Prop H8 OKed and then immediately begin both collecting signatures statewide toward getting Prop H8 put back on the ballot for a hopeful NO vote and educating the California public toward same-sex marriage at the same time as the signature collecting. To try to get a better result at the polls next time.

Hopefully at least the 18,000 marriage remain so that Kenneth Starr and National Marriage Organization get a partial 75% victory not a 100% one. Then CA will have to spend another year or so hacking away at what remains of Starr's victory.

I plan to go to Trenton, New Jersey before long to help out Garden State Equality. That organization and that state and New England is where the leadership toward gay marriage is now located.

The brand new marriage equality in Maine is now under attack by NOM and the Maine Family Policy Council (the former Christian Civic League of Maine, the "snake" has "shed it's old dead skin" and has rebranded itself for the purpose of coming back in another name to sink Maine marriage equality) So I plan to spend some time in June in NJ and ME to help out. Californians will have to help out CA and they can after all CA is one of the most heavily GLBT-populated of all our states. And also CA is 3,000 miles away from the East Coast where the current marriage action is plus CA is not currently the leader in marriage equality.

The northeast state of NJ is where the action for gaining marriage rights is now according to Garden State Equality (which is being bold and active.) NJ may well become the 6th state with marriage equality with NH the 7th when NH is finally able to get its act together.

NY the 8th, RI the 9th in 2011 and maybe CA ranked chronologically somewhere if it manages to get out of its Prop H8 funk.

Meanwhile the progay website "Good As You" (G. A. Y. for short) is predicting that Illinois will get civil unions this coming week. Illinois borders on the east side of Iowa, so maybe some of Iowa's good luck will rub off on Illinois and one day Illinois may later convert to marriage. Illinois's neighbor to the east Indiana has been defeating its own state's constitutional amendment time and time again same as my Maryland has in its own case.

Well...heres what Bill O'Reilly thinks: for real!

"Here's the thing about homosexual marriage in the United States: It is going to be legal in about half the states. There is no stopping the gay nuptials now, even though most Americans say they are opposed to extending marital law to same-sex couples.
...Your humble correspondent (Yes, this is Billo folks.) doesn't really care much about gay marriage because I believe it is no danger to the republic and the deity can sort all this stuff out after we're dead. I take a libertarian position on issues such as gay marriage because I want all Americans to be able to pursue happiness equally."

@Robert : there is, indeed, a case to be made about outside influences. however, that is not the case that was presented to the court. there may be some mention in an opinion of your concern and perhaps even a mention of the immorality of the vote result, but the court can only decide on the case with which it was presented which was whether this is an amendement to or a revision of the constitution. i would have preferred if we had argued 'outside influence' and 'equal protection' but we did not.

Yes, John, and parts of Orange and many conservative counties voted against Prop. H8. So, what's your point? Anyone with half a brain knows that you're not going to get an unanimous vote with a population the size of California's. Are you joining "shawn" in his call for a boycott? Better stop watching television, most of it is made here in California. Need some fact checking? Don't use Google, it's a California company, as are many tech manufacturers, suppliers et cetera. Going to watch a little "adult" entertainment. Oops, that's a problem, since most of that is also a product of this state.

The difference in the TOTAL vote was barely over 500,000. That's not all that many when compared to the total votes cast. Instead of calling for an impossible boycott, work to change people's minds. The "No on H8" campaign tried to make it's point without showing the real people that would be hurt. That's being corrected now. I, myself, have made a few videos pointing out the errors in what the pro-8 crowd was saying, putting my career at risk.

Again, IF a gay person chooses not to vacation in California, it's not going to hurt anyone except other gay people. Tourism is a very MINOR part of California's economy.

i think that the case was argued on the wrong grounds. it should have been argued strictly on the grounds of equal protection rather than this 'amendment vs. revision' arguement. the judges at the hearing seemed very hesitant to overturn 'the will of the people'. there is an initiative process in california and prop 8 qualified for the ballot. the court is unlikely to be willing to say that some election results are okay while others are not since it is not the initiative process itself that is being questioned. i will be very suprised if the vote on 8 is overturned.. and the marriages already performed may very well be invalidated. i'm dreading the glee that will come from the haters.. but i'm still holding onto a shred of hope that i may be wrong.

Scott,

Fact check. Los Angeles County and many of San Francisco Bay suburbs voted for Proposition 8, even though they went heavily Democratic in the partisan races. In fact, last November was one of the best results for the party ever in California, which was a reliably red state until 1992. Their new found liberalism doesn't extend to queers though.

This is, what, the third time since 1977 California has banned same-sex marriage? Talk about overkill.

Boston, Toronto, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Cape Town are just a few of the alternatives for concious objectors. Despite what some Californians may believe, San Francisco and Los Angeles aren't the only cities in the universe.
