Religious freedom?

I guess that applies to the people who gave us 9/11 etc.

And it applies to the Catholic church who gave the world the hatred of the Jews, which Hitler, a catholic leveraged to gain control of germany , and 50 million died.

And the Pope in 2009 unexcommunicated a Bishop williamson, who is a holocaust denier. But the church has yet to unexcommunicate Hitler.

What is behind all of this madness, and the absolute need to END religious hate speech and denigration of gay people etc is very simple............

The world is seeing the horrors of religious conservatism as never before. No one is above the Law, and that is not the Law of the church.

If Germany and Austria had hate speech laws back by 1930, and enforced them, Hitler would have spent his life in jail, and most likely WWII would not have happened.

Religious freedom, and a Pope who learned his lessons well growing up in Nazi Germany.

Both of these must end, and now.

It took me until just now to realize this. Does anyone else see a resemblance between Benedict and Palpatine from Star Wars?

Since when should religion trump the civil rights of people especially if other people are not of that religion? Religion is personal but civil rights are not.

"Natural Law" is an idea created and promoted by the catholic reich.

Homosexuality exists in hundreds of other animal species and by its very existance within nature, it is "natural".

Ignorance and mythology, like what Heir Benedict wallows in, is however, a completely learned behavior.

Hopefully there is a conversion group from him... from ignorance to intelligence. It IS possible Benny - you just have to BELIEVE!

or should I say the price of a sip of wine and a wafer.

@DavidW.
Yes I agree, we lost in Maine and California but by a VERY narrow margin.
Even five years ago we would have lost by a landslide.
Things are changing, people are changing.
Rome wasn't built in a day and gay equality will not be won in one day.
Still........take heart, the bigots may be winning but their victories will be short lived.

Since when are religious beliefs part of "natural law"? What arrogance!

bama-stu.....in the UK gay Brits can also bring in their foreign partners to reside and work there and they don't even have to be in a legal union, merely prove they have been together for a certain period of time and are co-dependent on one another. What do we have in the U.S? Absolutely NOTHING, except five paltry states with "limited" marriage rights with no portability and a military that can't even repeal DADT, unlike the UK, Canada, Israel, Australia, New Zealand and many other western countries. Pitiful and shameful, so much for the land of the so called "free".
