Wait. Maybe I'm missing something, but it's a big deal that Ellen has given 100k?

I don't know if there are laws that cap donations to such causes in CA, but if there are, she should be ashamed.

I love Ellen and I'm frankly shocked that this is ALL she could come up with!...She's had one of the highest rated chat shows for several years, she's the star as well as the producer I believe and it will almost certainly go into syndication and DVD sales! Do you know what kind of MEGA-BUCKS we are talking about here? We are talking about tripple digit millions!

My goodness, there are people in her neighborhood who spend 100k on ONE party or their second or third "junker" car. She probably pays her personal chef more than that in anual salary!

I can't believe the gays and gay supporters in Hollywood alone can't at least keep the money game even at best!...

Ellen dear, if I was in your shoes, I'd have given no less than a cool five mill just for STARTERS!...

I guess the people who don't want gay marriage are more passionate about their position than those who want it. Very sad.

What are we behind now, like 10 mil? Cher, Streisand, Cooper, Geffen, O'Donnel, Aiken, G. Michael, N.P. Harris, Taylor, E.John, Madge, Cho, and the countless wealthy moes and moe lovers in CA, nation wide and even internationally if that's allowed...we're going to need another 300k from each of you. It'll be a greater legacy than any album, movie, house, car etc.!...

Wayne,

The "sad truth" before YOU is this:

"Biden opposes Calif. gay marriage ban; Palin calls for federal amendment"

It is both interesting and (very)revealing that you have neglected to comment on that thread with your usual Obama-bashing. THAT is what's really "sad".

The Non Het community should look back in history and see that without riots and violence the people and the government does not take you seriously. MLK would not have achieved as much as he did for the black community if it were not for the threat of violence from the Black Panthers. So the gay community should remember The White Night riots in SF and Stonewall in NYC. Take it to the streets and burn down a few political anti gay meeting places. "NO JUSTICE NO PEACE!!!!"

This poll from 9/28-10/5 is so old it's quaint. It's from 2 1/2 weeks ago which is the equivalent of 2 lifetimes when we are this close to an election. It's also before the No on 8 campaign started their two response ads which have been effective.

Also, as noted since this is a "push poll" it isn't credible.

The last real poll from 10/17/08 released from Survey USA had No on 8 behind 48-45%. More realistic. (Their last ad "Unfair" had only been out 2 days.)

As noted below, this was a push poll. The last real poll found Prop 8 ahead by 48 to 45. It's tight, but it's winnable. Donate and volunteer NOW.

To David: You may not approve of the concept of marriage - which is totally understandable, but why should you be denied the right to choose to marry and all of the rights that go with it? YOU SHOULDN'T. Those of our community that spout that marriage isn't important miss the point entirely - this is about being denied civil rights, not just marriage but the approx. 1200 other rights that go with it. My husband and I took our two daughters to Toronto a few years ago, because it was important to us for our daughters sake to see a public expression of our committment - as well as for my hubby's family. The stability and peace that it created for them was well worth the cost. Unfortunately we had to travel to another country because at the time there wasn't a single place in the states that would "marry" us as we were not residence of MA. There are many reasons gay men & women want to get married just as there are for many gays to oppose marriage as an archaic, heterosexual institution. I get it. But just because I am married now doesn't mean I have to subscribe to anyones view of marriage - but can create my own, that represents me, my husband, and our family and gay it up as much as we want so to us it isn't the same 'ole "institution of marriage" but is so much more. I should have the right to choose to marry, just as you have the right not to marry...but to deny me this and all the rights that go along with it, is just flat out discrimination and WRONG!!!! PS: Huge kudos to Melody and her GSA - this type of activism is exactly what will bring change!!!!!

Now is the time for all actors, singers, musicians, celebrities to COME OUT of their closets and stand together with each other and the already out celebrities, and separately to publicly denounce Proposition 8. No matter what race or ethnicity they may be, no matter what excuses they have, their careers won't crumble. They need to say to the people of California "If you vote for Proposition 8, you are voting against me." Politicians carry a lot of weight, but in the USA in 2008, the people who exert the greatest influence, for better or worse, are those celebrated in the public eye. Well, it is time they stood up and stood out for this cause, and giving money anonymously isn't enough. This is really frightening. The results of Proposition 8 are going to impact the rest of the country. I'm from NY. I contributed as much money as I could. Because I know I will ultimately feel the effects of this issue. So I challenge ALL LGBT public figures to do the right thing. If ever there was a right time, it is now.

Wayne wants us to vote for McCain or vote for noone. He is making a lot of "noise" but no useful recommendations of any kind, so I will assume this is what Wayne is suggesting upon trying to "read between the lines" of his speech.

WAyne has posted in this vehement style each and every time. Hope all this stress Obama is causing him doesn't lead to a stroke or a heart attack for him.

At the risk of further upsetting our friend Wayne...
As we saw with Bill Clinton, a premature and ill-advised delving into the "hot-button" issues of our "controversial" community (SUCH AS GAYS IN THE MILITARY) at a time when his presidency was "too new" and hardly 6 months old, unfortunately "set a tone" not conducive to getting the broader part of the "people's aganda" accomplished during his administraton. All he got him was a ridiculous amonunt of lack of cooperation on a bipartisan level on issues of imporatance to 95$ of Americans.
He "painted" himself red" so to speak by taking on far too early the issues that would really only benefit 5% of the American populatino.

Let's see GLBT population at 5% is roughly 17 and 1/2 million people out of 350 million if thet is the current size of the population of USA residents. Enough to comfortably (without too much overcrowding) populate a state 3 times the size of Maryland which has about 5 to 6 million now.

GLBT population is mostly packed into most all of the major US cities coast to coast primarily in the coastal states and spread somewhat thinly in between those major US cities.

so we are still a MINORITY and an often not very well liked one at that. A lot of Congresspeople and their constituents do not favor us.

So Obama is smart and well-advised to ignore the impatient hullabaloo demanding that he attend to gay issues right away or ASAP. He is smart to get his firt 100 days in office well established on the issues that 95% of the USA care most about and look after our 5% minority after his first year has gone by.

Sorry, Wayne, but the facts of the matter are to for him to do as you scream and demand he do "right this second". Will be political suicide for him.

Wayne at this time the stark reality is either 4 more years of misrule in the style of Bush, Cheney and Rove.
Do you seriously want that Palin woman in the white House hatching plans with McCain for a US constitution gay marriage ban?

We are not as likely see one of those under Obama ? Biden but you can bet your last dollar we will see one being pushed under McBush and Palin.
