(Toronto) Celebrity blogger and open gay man Perez Hilton alleges that he was assaulted Sunday night by a manager for the hip-hop group the Black Eyed Peas after the Much Music Video awards in Toronto.
Toronto police have made an arrest in response to an assault that happened at 3 a.m. in a downtown Toronto club. The victim of the assault, who was not named, suffered minor injuries following the incident, said Toronto Police Constable Tony Vella.Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, took to the social media site Twitter following the incident, making pleas for help and accusing group member will.i.am of performing the assault. Will.i.am, whose real name is William J. Adams, created his own Twitter page to respond to the accusations.
The two have also taken to posting videos on their own respective websites to give their version of the incident. In the video, Lavandeira accuses a manager for the Black Eyed Peas of punching him several times after he had a confrontation with will.i.am.

A great deal of the rambling and as well as the misread words can be reduced by a few adjustments of punctuation and wording.
I can agree that Perez Hilton is on the whole obnoxious, but why do commenters here have the ridiculous notion that he is “representing” the gay community? Representing us where? In some imaginary sexual identity congress?
Perez Hilton doesn’t “represent” the gay community any more than Chris Brown “represents” blacks.
Even if Perez was being his annoying self, assault was not the proper response to his behavior. I hope everyone who says as much is prepared to get physical whenever they’re being idiotic.
He is an embarrasement for the community. Yet he’s what straight people like – an entertaining gay that is non-threatening.

I think Perez got what was coming to him. In his arguement with Will I Am he called Will a faggot. In Perez’s statement he says he wanted to call Will something that would really piss him off. Well Perez you degrated yourself and being gay is not a horrible thing so why did you call him that? Doesn’t make sense to me. Perez lost what little respect I had for him. I hope he doesn’t win since he’s pressing charges.
Remember when gay culture mavens aspired to the rapier wit of Gore Vidal? Or when funk bands aspired to the artistry of Sly Stone?
Now we have a blogger whose known mostly for drawing ejaculate on celebrety photos and a band whose bimbo lead singer is best known for singing about dropping her “London Bridge.”
Perez is an ugly cliche about gay men as dorks and Will-i-am is a wussy thug wanabe who sends his manager to do his dirty work. Why should we care about these worthless bozos?

It’s his stereotype that makes America think that we’re all like that. Maybe America is like Homer Simpson…..they can only accept you if you’re a “flaming homo”. I am not a Perez Hilton fan and when he went after Ms. California I knew it was only a matter of time before he would see how it felt. She had a right to her opinion and to call her the names he did was totally uncalled for and inappropriate. He should have used that as a teaching moment and not one for ignorance and slander.

Just because I am gay doesn’t mean (as this article seems to suggest), that I share in a love of or a knowledge of hip hop or that I have heard of the Black Eyed Peas. Until today, I only knew of “black eyed peas” as a food and of eating them on a particular day as a tradition for some.
I have no idea of what relevance this alleged assault by a member of some hip hop group is to gay rights advances or to repeals of gay rights or to other actual gay news. But, I guess one does learn something everyday and now I can finally say have read at least one reference to the Black Eyed Peas, even though not in a flattering way.
Who is this guy? I never heard of him before that bigot beauty queen issue. I thought he was part of that really sad family, the hiltons, who seem ok with pimping out their offspring for noteriety.
Why would he change his name to Hilton? I guess because he fits their image.
Conrad must be rolling in his grave, with that woman doing a Donald show (how horribly tasteless was her NY apartment anyway?) and this tacky queen assuming his name.
I just can’t figure out why the man gets a stage for his antics. I guess I read this story, but still, I have no idea how he makes a living. Does he work for some publisher or is he freelance? What is “celebrity blogger”? That’s a new career to me. Who pays you?
Just as with professional sports, we as a culture seem obsessed with other people, to the point of not having a meaningful life. I’m glad I focus on my own family, our health, well being and our own entertainment, not that spoon fed to us from these tacky people who I would never invite into my home for lack of taste!

In this day and age, it is highly disrespectful and no longer the “in” thing to demand that any number of people “own” any particular label.
