Pepsi Urged To Drop Gay Ties
05.07.2009 8:12pm EDT
(Dallas, Texas) A PepsiCo shareholder who describes himself as “a former gay” urged the company to “stop using shareholder profits to fund anti-heterosexual groups” at the firm’s annual shareholders meeting in Dallas.
Greg Quinlan, a member of the conservative American Family Associated affiliated group Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays, presented a motion asking stockholders to stop donating money to groups that he said ” aim to discredit the ex-gay community.”In his speech to shareholders, Quinlan described the Human Rights Campaign and Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) as “gay organizations that hate people like me.”
Over the past two years, Pepsi has given $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign and $500,000 to PFLAG.
“By funding PFLAG, PepsiCo promotes fear and hostility against the ex-gay community and our supporters, and spreads lies about ex-gay organizations. Diversity does not mean funding one organization so that it can attack another,” said Quinlan.
His motion received five percent of the vote. Quinlan said he will keep pressing the issue at shareholders meetings. Under company rules, any vote receiving more than three percent remains active.
PepsiCo produces Frito-Lay snacks, Pepsi-Cola and Gatorade drinks, Tropicana juices, and Quaker foods.
The company already is under a boycott by the AFA.
The AFA in January issued an Action Alert to its more than two-million members, telling them to avoid Pepsi products.
“Pepsi refuses to give money to any pro-family organization that opposes the homosexual agenda. Plus, every homosexual organization we know of is overwhelmingly pro-abortion,” according to the Action Alert.
Previous AFA boycotts have had little impact on companies, although the group has had some success.
In October, it ended a boycott of McDonald’s after the fast-food giant agreed to end its support for the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. McDonald’s incurred the wrath of the AFA after it made a $20,000 donation to the chamber, and Richard Ellis, who until September was vice president of communications for the chain, was named to the chamber’s board of directors. Ellis resigned from the Chamber of Commerce board, though the company said Ellis resigned after moving to McDonald’s Canadian operation.
The AFA previously boycotted Disney for several years over its support for Gay Days at Disney World, although the company is not an official sponsor of the event. It has also boycotted Proctor & Gamble and Kraft, and has threatened to boycott Wal-Mart.
An AFA boycott of Ford over the automaker’s support for LGBT issues was heralded as a success by the organization, which noted that it had resulted in a drop in sales and share value. But most financial analysts said that Ford’s problems were really the result of vehicle designs that failed to impress the public. Ford was the only carmaker of the Detroit big three to decline a federal bailout.
The AFA claimed victory when Ford began pulling its ads from LGBT publications, but industry observers and the company said the ad pullout was part of a downsizing of expenses.

Dear Greg Quinlan, we do not hate the sinner, just your sin!
ahhh THIS is why I like Pepsi so much =D
“gay organizations that hate people like me.”
no fair, you hated us first!
btw stop eating junk food and soda!
I hope this fool chokes on his next blow-job.
Organizations and individuals condemning and judging others morality should pratice what they preach and those I’m refurring to know who they are.
If one expects to do that to another can’t they expect the same to happen to them?Does condemning another make one feel better about themselves and their perception of how things should be?Is it better to promote knowledge and understanding or helping negitivity to grow and flourish?Enough said.
The ex-gay “community”? Wait… How many people does it take to make a community?
It’s his fault for feeling so insecure about his ‘ex-gayness’.
“Diversity does not mean funding one organization so that it can attack another.” Now if only the organizations he supports followed that idea.
diet mountain dew (a pepsi product) is the most refreshing drink ever. glad i can continue to drink it. there will always be fringe groups. ex-gay huh? just snorted diet mt dew through my nose.
When this guy’s depression and self-loathing finally boil over he will finally be able to become what he really is…I wonder if all the brainwashed Ex-gays who eventually become Ex-Straights again think they are different from gays.
AFA is a front for the “NO Brains, No Headaches” subversive organization. Their specialty is picking fly shit out of pepper before it hits the market.
You know what people, there is always going to be someone that is very misaligned that they will do, say and twist everything around so they can raise a big fuss over their own selfish and non-reality needs.
If this poor schmuck truly believes that everyone is out to get him, there is something seriously wrong with his brain. You can never reason with someone whose brain is twisted and so badly miswired that he will believe whatever he wants to believe, and no one can get through to him.
If he believes that donating money to a group that helps gay families and if he equates that to attacks against his own “ex-gay”ness and “heterosexuality”, let him.
In reality if anyone believes that donating money to a fund that helps black families is somehow an attack against white families, everyone can see how ridiculous that sounds.
This can also be said about misaligned schmucks that attempt to boycott any company. Boycotting any company during a time when our world economy is in recession causing people to lose jobs and affecting so many americans and their children is wrong. I could only imagine they are hurting heterosexuals more than those that they are attempting to hurt.
They aren’t for the betterment of Americans. They are malicious and misaligned and are out of their minds.
Pepsi, rots teeth and body. Whips the brain, body, heart and nerves with caffeine.
What to be healthy? avoid sodas, high in sugar drinks and excessively sweet foods.
Ditto for greasy and highly salted foods.
Exercise as well if not and watch the extra weight likely start to come down.
Pepsi and soft drinks are not a friend to your good health and fitness. Let
AFA’s staff and followers fatten up and get a face full of pus-filled acne pimples at McDonald’s grease pit and Pepsi’s teeth and body be gone soda fountain.
LGBT people don’t need these useless products.
Menstruator, I don’t drink soda at all, ever..never had. it is disgusting…sugar, water, chemical.
Just like the “vitamin water” everone is drinking…first ingredient after water is sugar!
let the breeders consume these products if they want. However, they own Quaker and I eat oatmeal every day.
I’d like to comment on the ridiculous quote claiming most gay rights organizations are pro-abortion.
Why do we let these groups control the semantics…they matter.
It is pro-choice, it is not anti-hetersexual or pro gay-marriage…it is marriage equality!
And I agree it certainly isn’t ex-gay. You can change your behaviour but not who you are. Perhaps these people are bi, although I doubt it. We should call them non-practicing gays, or closet-cases!
I pity the ‘ex-gays’ because they are ignorant to the definition of bi-sexual.
any co. that produces mountain dew, is OK by me
Drink fruit juices instead. Waaaay better for ya. With that said does anyone here know of the business holdings for this AFA group??
