Nancy Pelosi wake! Gay voters could pick another up Democrat in the next Primary, who is sensitive to the gay communities need. A representative who represents them! This is a wake up for all Dems. I vote in all elections and even primarys. So the Dem. machine may loose their candidate for one who represents them.

I have equal issues with Dems and Repubs.

They're both self serving liars.

I live in San Francisco. There is a lot of gay money and political influence here. We should start an effort NOW to mount a serious primary or if the establishment Dems block it, 3rd party candiate to run against Pelosi in 2010 unless she supports our rights. There would be money and energy to do this, and while it might be a tough road, I think that a challenge from a Bevan Dufty or other well respected SF pol. might wake her up... She is not serving her constituents.

I vote Democrat because there is no viable option for most races, and there's also not likely to be in my region at this time. I sure as hell DO reserve the right to take Pelosi and the Congressional Dems to task because they're playing games with peoples' lives. The entire Ohio GOP congressional delegation could be tested to see if they have as many chromosomes as humans do, but what the hell is this notion that I'm somehow not allowed to question the Dems when they're supposed to be the alternative to those GOP goons? It sounds a lot like crap I've heard at various times--we have allow (and tacitly endorse) inaction, failure to act and refusal to act, with justification variously given as "there aren't enough votes," or "we can't make them look bad," or some other riff on the theme of enabling.

Trace, sorry, but the GOP record is there and it's an ugly one. The party line is narrow and rigid; they've spent the last 30 years forcing out anybody inclined to vote pro-gay, and it's only gotten worse. That is an option only if my "choice" is to see things get even worse, which takes it out of the arena of equal or positive options and into the range of sociopolitical masochism.

Why do some people try to make it taboo to call out Dems who are antigay, if not in word than in deed? If the Dems are not going to be pro-gay at platform level, with their elected members held to party line, then why the hell should I vote for them? Why should any gay man or woman donate to a party which will slide that cash to some of these do-nothing types? Sunshine is the best disinfectant, so why not shine a light on those Dems who still harbor some dislike or disapproval of gays? How about the idea of NOT endorsing Jim Crow for homos, and how about being especially hard on nonwhites who use the "diversity" of the Democratic Party as cover for their homophobia? (You listening, Ruben Diaz? Barack Obama? Marion Barry?) Yeah, it'd be nice to see Dem leadership grow a set, but that won't come 'til after I win the lottery.

GLBT = cash for campaigns (on both sides). If there are no pressing issues, there is less cash. They will hold out until the next election cycle, promise us rights, get the money and then delay any resolution to the issues until the next election.

How many times must we re-visit what is patently obvious to anyone with even a minimal brain stem: even though there are a handful of 'nice' Republicans and more than enough asshole Democrats, there is still NO comparison!

Please stop with the GOP whining. Any sane Gay thinking person can come to the conclusion that the Dems are light-years ahead of the homophobes in the GOP.

That said, I, for one, attend my local Islip Town Democratic Committee as often as possible; I remain a Committeeperson; I remain vocal at these meetings. We all should to the best of our ability. Change comes slowly to these folks, but if we don't participate, then no one will hear our voices.

And please don't make any comparisons to Log Cabiners - they are delusional and need mental health counseling. At least I know that there are f'd-up Dems out there - and their days are numbered.

Anger is good if placed at the right targets. But wanting to be a part of the GOP is like those Roman Catholics who truly think they can change a mononlithic, centuries-old church - they need their heads examined too.

DOMA is toast once it hits the courts. The only real question is how Obama will justify the feds defending DOMA in court.

Pelosi makes it sound like you can only vote to repeal DOMA once. It's bad legislation. Slick Willy should never have let it get past his desk and shame on him for his moral cowardice.
Unfortunately, that same moral cowardice is still alive and well in DC.

I agree with most people's anger of course but for me, Pelosi will be more likely to listen then some asshole like Newt Gingrich or Orin Hatch or all the Republicans in the senate!

Try and write her or get of your lazy asses and go picket her office...

I think there are lots of other factors in some people's response to not like the Dems. To each his or her own, but like I said, I personally feel better at this stage of my life as a GAY American with the Democrats then I EVER have with Republicans...

Maybe it's "Regional" or something. but where I come from Republican= Fag hater, black and minority hater anyone who isnt "white and christian" so. Thats what I have to work with.

The back tracking of Democrats is just another proof that people need to vote for CANDIDATES, not parties!!! All Democrats aren't friendly to minorities any more than all Republicans are unfriendly. The Democrats have huge majorities--if they kept their party's campaign promises, DOMA would already be repealed, as would "don't ask, don't tell". The problem is the campaign is over, they got the votes, so now its "what's the rush---we need to think about it, form a "study group" and discuss it to death." The more things change, the more they remain the same!
