Controversial 700 Club host Pat Robertson criticized the inclusion of LGBT people in the federal hate crime protections bill on Thursday, calling the move a “noose… around the necks of Christians,” and referring to it as a threat on Christian’s freedom of speech and religion.
”What about a law that says it’s a federal crime to attack somebody because of his religious beliefs?” Robertson said. “Not a chance!”The blog Crooks and Liars criticized Robertson’s rationale towards religious persecution. Writing for the blog, David Neiwert, in analyzing Robertson’s remarks, points out that “Robertson seems completely unaware that in fact religious bias is one of the categories of bias crime covered by hate-crime laws — and it has been from the very start, since these laws were first enacted on the state level in the early 1980s!”
In support of the new law, Mr. Neiwert writes: “Everyone interested in advancing civil rights in America and defending the nation’s minorities from the deprivation of their rights by terroristic thugs…have real cause to celebrate.”
President Obama signed the bill into law last Wednesday.
I wonder if the so called religiuos right remembers that it took at least a couple of heteros to reproduce the homosexual son and/or daughter they have brought forth. Hatred is the noose around the necks of christians not the justice which God has allowed to flow down for all His creation.
I really don’t blame robertson. It’s the idiots that suck up his every word and worship him as some kind of messiah. They’re the ones with the problem.
By the way, why is a law to protect people supposed to be a “noose around anyone’s neck” especially for a group of people who are “supposed” to believe in love and forgiveness?
This just proves that they are liars and are NOT true Christians. I mean after all, Jesus was a liberal Jew who hung around with prostitutes and social outcasts. Wouldn’t they be surprised if Jesus returned as a short, fat, black, lesbian? They’d be gathering in HOARDS to crucify him again. They have already defeated themselves AND their tiny hateful god who lives only in their small, malignant minds.
It has been fine and dandy for the likes of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, James Dobson and even little old Fred Phelps to keep up their bible thumping hate mongering of Gays. But now the tables are turned around, it is all a different story. Well, in case you are just tuning in Mr. Robertson, the American Constitution was created to protect the rights of ALL Americans not just the select few, such as your self-righteous religious selves!

Freedom of religion is explicitly guaranteed in the Constitution. Freedom of religion is limited by the Constitutional ban on establishment of religion, which is what Robertson really wants. Freedom of religion includes freedom from compulsory participation in religion. Robertson wants what Iranian clerics have, and more, and he’s angry that he can’t get it. Let that noose tighten around his neck. I wanna see him choke out.
They just hate it that they can’t kill us, beat us up, or maim us anymore now without it being a hate crime. Has nothing to do with speech. Too bad we still they still don’t feed those lions. I’d buy front row tickets for the bigot feeding.

Pat is not an idiot. He is very well aware that religious bias has been covered under hate crimes laws for years. He counts on the fact that his audience of uneducated minions won’t be aware of the facts. It’s easy to stir an uneducated group into a crazy mob and he knows this.
Too bad he doesn’t take that commandment about bearing false witness to heart.

And don’t forget that he also blamed GLBT people for what happened on 9/11/2001. It was Jerry Foulmouth who said it but Robertson was behind him agreeing with the lies that came out. I still say that when they are forced to apologize for something said on the airwaves; that is how they should do it and not in print where people will not see the apology.

What Pat neglected to explain is why a noose around his neck would be a bad thing.
How can we expect a White Chistian Males to understand descrimination. Christians haven’t been discriminated since Roman times when they were feed to the lions in the Colosseum. I think Oat was born just after that.

Pat Robertson and his cohorts on the religious right do not care about truth as long as they can fuel the fears of people whose sole source of news is his 700 Club and Faux News. The biggest problem is that a lot of the people who listen to him are so brainwashed that even when they are shown the facts, they still refuse to believe them. That, however, should not stop us from exposing the truth whenever we can so that eventually everyone will “wake up” and realize what hate-filled, bigoted liars these people are.
