I have an idea. Let's identify a gay 3rd party candidate we can all vote for in 4 years if Obama doesn't do all he can to bring about equality for LGBT people. The repugs won't vote for our candidate, but if we all do, it will cause BO to lose a second term. How's that for motivating him to get off his ass and fix this Prop 8/DADT/DOMA shit?

Congrats!!! you are doing the work of the right wing republican religious arm. They want us to fight each other and we are picking up everything we can find to hit each other with. and the heavier the better. If you, any of you, are as intellegent as you want us to believe, then you know why these ballots are brought and won by our opponents. You know that hurt people, hurt people. You know that racisim exist in the gay community and that homophobia knows no colour line. You should also know that religion ist the base of this and should look for solutions instead of fighting and blaming each other.
I will start: I live in NYC and want my state to have gay marriage rights so i voted for democrats that will bring it up in the state senate. I rally and I send money but I also TALK TO, NOT AT those that disagree and dont understand why gays want/need these rights. I am openly gay and my partner is well known to my co-workers and family. We are also registered domestic partners in NYC. We work to fight racism and homophobia where ever we find it and we never stop believing that tomorrow can be better than yesterday. My chosen career is to fight for the rights of gays/lesbians and people of colour.
If you chose to believe that all is lost, just remember that prop 8 was not the be-all-and-end-all of gay rights. It was just one state that would have legally made a bigger mess if not done with education and help from other states and our federal government.is only the end if you start fighting your brothers/sisters in a race to the bottom. That is what killed John McCain and has always hurt us too! We blame when we should be working together. The choice is yours, but way too many of the white people made comments that were very over the top on a gay site that is meant to educate. We, who read these comments, are not your enemy but you have made it clear that because of colour you are willing to ensure that we become them. Do better, act better, be better! Blacks needed over 200 years to get where they are, respect their struggle, and realize change takes time and work. Gays are very new to the social scene but have gained much more than any minority in the history of the world in such a time. Take pride in that. Conn was a win last night, but not mentioned on this site. New Jersey is still a strong hold and Mass is still the grand daddy of achievement but I guess you wont vote for their black Gov that supports gay rights now? Two wrongs dont make a right.
All of you make me want to quit my job as a gay rights lawyer and sit on the beach far away from your bitching!

Dave Wimberly and Wayne:

1)I did not specify either of you

2)I did not deny that homophobia exists in the Black communtiy.

What I did say is that racists exist in the Gay community and there are some right here.

If you are asking me as a Black Gay Man to do something about homophobia in my community, believe me I do. I call it when I see or hear it.

Don't get pissed at me when I do the same to racist Gay folks.

It is not racist to speak the truth. The support of African Americans, as a demographic group, were the primary reason this referendum passed. That is a fact. History shows that the oppressed are often the first in line to oppress someone else. The bitter irony is that a firm stand by Obama against Prop 8 would likely have made the difference. Of course, he may have lost the election had he done so. I canvassed for Obama and sent him money. I recognize his administration will support my interests far more than McCain's yet this, for me, is a very sad day.

BLAMING wont help..

When 75% of Black women and 70% of both male and female African Americans vote to deny gay marriage equality; should we praise their bigotry and homophobia instead?

The Black Community was overwhelmingly supportive of the Proposition 8 and Amendment 2 in Florida. They openly stated that overwhelmingly they were going to vote for these ballot measures. Their religious leaders cajoled them to vote for these measures. Gays have been on the side of the civil rights movement. Gays have been the leaders of the civil rights movement. Bayard Rustin who organized the March on Washington in the 60's must be rolling in his grave. There is no doubt that the black community is the largest group responsible for the success of the amendment and proposition. Both sides admitted that the black vote was the crucial vote for these measures before the election. So, it is not racist to tell the truth. And in Florida, we would have to get sixty percent to overturn this. Even if the black community would all vote with us, it won't over turn the amendment. This is devastating.

But mostly, I blame us. The queer community of Florida. We are unorganized. We are uninvolved. We do not protest, fight for or advance or causes. We expect a small group from the Human Rights Campaign to do this for us. Well, not anymore. Not from me. It took being betrayed by the group that I figured we were in the boat with. But I now know that nobody will be on our side. We have to do it ourselves.

It is outrageously homophobic for ANY black person to vote for this.

Thanks to blacks, lesbians and gays of all colors are 48% of a person in California.

I'm actually NOT sorry blacks lost affirmative action in Nebraska. Karma.

And finally, if you have learned nothing from this election is that things can change. So, the ban on gay marriage is not permanent and can be reversed. If you feel like people of color are to blame then figure out ways to reach people of color the next time around to change their views. That is what Obama did, he had to reach across racial lines to appeal to racist people. You will never get things passed unless you unite people to understand your stance, you will never get them to support you. and BLAMING wont help.
