Obama, Mormon leader meet in Oval Office

(Washington) President Barack Obama met with the leader of the Mormon church on Monday in the Oval Office, thanking the religion’s president for a thorough history of the first family.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Thomas S. Monson presented Obama with details of his family’s genealogy during their first face-to-face meeting. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat who is Mormon, helped arrange the meeting and joined it.

“I’m grateful for the genealogical records that they brought with them and am looking forward to reading through the materials with my daughters,” Obama said in a statement after the meeting. “It’s something our family will treasure for years to come.”

Mormon leaders traditionally meet with new presidents and share with them records from the Salt Lake City-based church’s extensive genealogical records.

“President Obama’s heritage is rich with examples of leadership, sacrifice and service,” Monson said in a statement. “We were very pleased to research his family history and are honored to present it to him today.”

The five leather-bound books detail Obama’s family history for several generations. Parts of that history were already known, such as his ties to former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney. The two are eighth cousins.

Obama is a descendent of Mareen Duvall. The French Huguenot’s son married the granddaughter of a Richard Cheney, who arrived in Maryland in the late 1650s from England.

    • All I can say is that I would much rather have an honest enemy than a dishonest friend.

Obama has so far proven to be that dishonest friend. You love the words he speaks and yet hate the actions he takes. He infiltrates and then attacks.

It would be so much better to have someone who fights against us but who says what he is going to try to do at the beginning. That way we can begin fighting back at the front end rather than reacting to an attack from the inside.

    • Maybe this is why Obama is extending Secret Service protection for Cheney! LOL!

Obama can meet whoever he wants but the Mormons are a seriously twisted bunch (not on the scale of say, suicide bombers – but bizarre nonetheless – in that Mel Gisbon traditional catholic kind of way).

Yep, the word “cult” fits here very well, but in truth, all organized religion is made of cults. Just because one group is smaller or hasn’t been around as long doesn’t make the ones that have any less “cult-like” (they’ve just had more years to perfect their b.s.)

    • I have no objection to the President meeting with Mormon or other religious leaders. However, he must give a clear message that while he will do everything he can to defend the equality, safety and civil rights of religious minorities, he cannot and will not ever support or further any agenda that denies these rights to others. Equality to all! Special Rights for no one!

    • @Morgan, Read @whatmdw021 said below in the second paragraph. Yes it does have to do with me and you.

I had a cousin that got knocked up by one and the shotgun wedding ensued. When she tried to convert she started to see the crazy shit they do and immediately got divorced because of that and hubby was a jerk.

This is the crap that scares me. Especially when they can raise millions and organize others against our causes based on lies. They do all too much damage to be ignored without peril.

    • @ Bob from Arlington: Your information is a little inaccurate. The mormons don’t claim to have crossed on the land bridge from Asia. They believe that the family of Lehi, left Jerusalem and built boats that carried them to South America. Two of the sons of Lehi rebelled and were turned “dark skinned” because of their evil ways.

On another note – geneology is great however not when used to do ordinances in their temple by proxy. For example, the names they collect in through geneology they then do a “proxy” baptism for the dead to convert them to mormonism. Ask the jews how they feel about the tens of thousands of holocaust victims the mormons have done “baptism for the dead” to convert to their religion on their books. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.

    • If Obama really did give a rats behind about us he would have refused to meet with them or at the very least grilled them about Prop 8.
The only meeting Obama should have been holding with the Mormons is to tell them that their tax exempt status was being revoked.
      He’ll treasure their books?
Sorry if this ruffles any feathers but I would have dropped my pants, took a s*** on their books and threw them in his face.
And so many of you still rally behind Obama.
      Why?

    • I wonder if he knows that most of them still don’t consider blacks human despite their God telling them this in 1978?

    • I’m interested to see if their genealogical records go back as far as to support their claim that they’re the true “Native Americans” who (were white, since being colored meant you were sinful) crossed the land bridge from Asia and first settled the Americas, as they claim. FYI, this claim has been scientifically DISPROVEN! I might trust a few generations of their work geneology, but not any farther.

    • Jessic K,
Mormons consider ancestors to be in important, It’s part of their faith. Nothing to do with you or me. Since I won’t be hooked into their way of life. I am not the least bit afraid of them.

I am waiting for another set of Mormon boy missionaries to come to my door so that I can tell them they’d better leave before I call the police for trespassing on my private property.

    • I am a amature genealogist and I don’t usually quote information I’ve found in the Mormon Genealogcial libraries. I’ve found so many errors in their data. They do not verify genealogical data sent to them, and it is usually full of errors.

  • Jessica K Said: July 22nd, 2009 at 12:08 pm
    • The reason that they (mormons) keep geneology records on every one (even the non-mormons, us) is that they think everyone is a Mormon, they (you) just don’t know it yet.

This is one facet of all the crazy things they do that scares the crap out of me.

    • hehe, sounds like obama has older ties to this country than alot of those yum yums
that claimed he wasn’t a citizen

  • Morgan Said: July 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 am
    • The Mormons are excellent and thorough on geneology and tracing ancestors. And their world wide charity and poverty work. But that is all the Mormoms are good for and does not excuse their antigay bigotry.
