No gay adoption in Sydney

The Australian state of New South Wales – which includes Sydney – has decided not to overturn a gay adoption ban, despite a study saying that changing the law would “ensure the best interests of children.”
Says the Sydney Morning Herald:“The Government said yesterday there was insufficient community support to justify new legislation on the topic.
“Groups representing same-sex couples denounced the decision, saying an opportunity to redress discrimination had been missed.
‘There are very deeply held, divergent views on this issue and that is why a decision on this matter will not be taken at this stage’ the Minister for Community Services, Linda Burney, said yesterday.”

So the USA isn’t the only DUMB place on earth?
Facebook, right, its a lot worse in Australia, yet another backward society with the exception of our lovely gay brothers and sisters who have to live there. They should do what we should be doing, putting the democrats or labour on notice (daily), that they can’t expect our support as a given in future elections. They either deliver the goods or go fuck themselves.
Maaannn!
So, because “the community” holds discriminatory views that are the complete opposite of what the best social science has to say, we’re going to side with those who fearfully discriminate.
Good decision. Not!
Profiles in cowardice!
Facebook, it’s no secret that places ranging from dumb to no gay rights at all to down-right dangerous to gay people can be found around the globe.
Examples can be found in many countries.
I have lived in Australia and in terms of gay rights its not actually that bad. You see in Australian law same-sex couples are reconised as defacto which means they basically have all the same rights as a married hetero couple and in Australia GLBT people are covered by anti-discrimination laws which are strong and not weak like some USA city bylaws. Also gay adoption is not banned in Sydney its simply not reconised. In my opinion theres less discrimination in Australia than the USA. I would choose Australia over the USA if I had to choose the two places to live.
Jason84: You’re awfully naive. Marriage equality is NOT special equality, which is what the de facto relationship status is, i.e., I can live with my best girlfriend and that could be a de facto relationship. Regardless of what rights come along with it, the de facto relationship is a term only the Australians use and would not be recognized in the UK, for example, causing many pains for those of us who do emigrate.
