New Yorkers: How to get to the Equality March
Sure, there’s plane, Amtrak and Bolt Bus – but you can also hitch a ride with one of the many buses going from NYC to DC this Sunday for the Equality March.
Buses leave from Williamsburg, Chelsea (where you can ride with NYC Countil Speaker Christine Quinn), the Upper West Side/Columbia, the West Village and Washington Square/NYU Most tickets are $34. Broadway Impact’s free buses are sold out)Jenny and I will be driving. Ali Davis will be flying from California. James Withers – OK, I don’t know how James is getting there, but he’ll be there. We all hope you’ll be there, too.

I belong to several gay communnity organizations here in Jacksonville, Florida. I can’t find anyone whom is going. What gives?? I don’t drive because I have vision problems, so I wanted to go, but since I haven’t heard a word about it, from anyone, I’m not able to go. I’ve brought it up several times and people say that they haven’t heard of it. Again, WTF?
Please! If you can get to Washington on October 11th, GET THERE! If not, write a letter to the President and your own representatives in congress demanding action on LGBT equality.
If the so-called “pro-family/pro-life” movement of the religious right can get 2 million of their supporters to flood the White House with letters, post cards and other missives, we cannot afford to do any less. If we are more interested in the next night at the bar or the next party, then don’t blame our political representatives for putting LGBT issues on the back burner.
Would love to go. But now we will have IQreport if we can’t.
See announcement that there will be live blogging all both days! HERE. http://tinyurl.com/y8prwro
Peter Pan, Trailways and Greyound also leave from the Port Authority. If you have unused frequent-flier miles, see if you can burn those. Hell–drive to Baltimore, stay there, and take MARC into DC. If you can get to suburbs outside Metro lines (Frederick and Hagerstown MD, Manassas, Leesburg, Winchester, Woodbridge (Quantico), Fredericksburg VA, Martinsburg, Charles Town WV), there are still commuter buses and trains on weekdays, and you may still find hotel/motel rooms at a decent rate. Check http://www.apta.com/resources/links/Pages/default.aspx for transit links in the region, and have an atlas ready.
I think it is great to have the march/gathering! How come it wasn’t advertised a year before, so people who live far away can plan! I found out about it 3 months before on your site. No where else! Make travel money on all of us because we want to be counted!
