New website seeks to out gay priests
Joe.My.God. points to a new website seeking to out gay priests, as a response to Washington Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, which is actively working to stifle LGBT rightsin the District.
A press release on ChurchOuting.org says:A new local Internet and social media campaign was launched today in response to increasing anti-gay attacks by Archbishop Donald Wuerl of the Archdiocese of Washington and to a 57 page Pastoral Letter, which was passed today by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) affirming the national church leadership’s opposition to recognition of civil marriage between same sex couples
ChurchOuting.org is a clearinghouse for reports of priests who are openly gay men in social settings yet professionally closeted in their parishes. The campaign will also accept reports of heterosexual priests who are involved in romantic or sexual relationships, yet support the Archbishop’s efforts to harm lesbian and gay families.
The site, which is founded by political consultant Phil Attey, encourages those with knowledge of a priest’s closeted homosexuality to come forward.

I’d rather see a site dedicated to gay bishops – people who have power in the Church. Even better, gay cardinals. Best – gay popes.
what an excellant idea…perhaps if they are busy protecting themselves they’ll not have so much free time to meddle in our lives….will certainly send along anyone i know of…..
I think that this is unfortunate, but very necessary, considering how virulently homophobic the RC church is. When I was living in MA in 2004 when same-sex marriage was legalized there, the Catholic bishops organized some very serious religious opposition to marriage equality. The “most reverend” Thomas Dupre, bishop of the Springfield Diocese, was all over the news condemning same-sex marriage, but unfortunately for him, two people he abused when he was a parish priest saw him and outed him for his hypocrisy. The coward then got in a car and drove to a “rehab” center in Maryland where he has been ever since. Needless to say, outing him for what he did took some of the wind out of the sails of the opposition. I hope that this website will put much-needed pressure on the diocese of Washington.
I agree with Patrick. I wouldn’t support this if the Catholic Church hadn’t attempted to blackmail the DC government.
There is no such thing as outing. There is telling the truth. And there is lying.
How good to finally see someone drawing up ‘lists’ about the Catholic Church and its members – a quaint and effective reversal of the usual pattern!
Go get ‘em!!!!!
The Catholic Church has declared WAR against gay tax paying, decent citizens…OUTING gay priests is an appropriate act of war against the Catholic Church, let the bloodbath begin, the Catholic Church yet again will have only herself to blame for the wave of bad press….you would think they would have learned by now.
This brings to mind an old adage: “What’s good for the Goose, is good for the Gander!” Or payback is a b**ch!
An individual’s sex life is nobody’s business unless and until their actions make it somebody’s business. If you are a politician who pushes an antigay agenda, but you’re hooking up with men, you deserve to be outed. If you are a member of clergy, and you stand by while your faith actively singles out gays for discrimination, then you deserve to be outed. Whenever you seek to limit somebody else’s personal choices and affairs, your own choices and affairs become fair game. It’s sad, because in a way it’s a race to the moral/ethical bottom, but such disclosure wouldn’t be necessary if people were true to themselves. You can choose to live in fear and denial, but the second that you subject other people to the consequences of your fear and denial, then you become a legitimate target. I don’t have the right to tell anybody whether or how they worship, but neither does anybody have the right to subject me to bigotry and try to cast it as an unassailable stance because it’s wrapped in pages from the bible (or any other religious text).
Drewski, so you are suggesting that if you are a pre-school teacher, teaching children about gay marriage, then you need to be outed to expose the true agenda.
But, are you suggesting that the vast amount of gay opposition and discrimination, is realy done by gay men, because of self-hate? So, what we are doing, is outing the self-hating homosexuals. “Still homosexual”.
Or, if you are a priest and spending a lot of time with little boys, then you need to be outed as a homosexual. I guess you are right, we should not wait until 95% of the Catholic child molestation cases are discovered to be homosexual in nature.
Dear 666…I mean 366. You seem to operate reasonably well in idiomatic American English. I wrote what I wrote. You need me to parse it for you, that’s your problem of comprehension, not mine of expression or explication. You have a point, then make it.
When the Catholic Church supports lying adds to attack our rights we should counter with adds asking “America do you really want the church of pedophile preist to determine public policy ?”
The Catholic Church more than any organization is most likely why the Founding Fathers wanted Separation of Church and State.
And remember this is the Church that did very little to protest the Nazis in WWII, They most likely were way more worried about the Vatican buildings and the statues than all the human lives being brutally taken.

This is truly regrettable.
The Bishops Conferences are the enforcing arm of the policy created under the auspices of the cardinals and pope. The parish priest, many of whom are gay, get the policy jammed down their throat. The church, not a democracy, can and will punish them if they speak out against policy. Meanwhile their pensions and future well being lies in the crosshairs of the whole debate.
Most parish priests are supportive of our efforts –in private. I have friends who are priests. They are gay. Yet they are silent. I understand why, but I cannot condone it.
Perhaps the outing website will ultimately just destroy other people who have been unable to come out. Perhaps it will do nothing for our cause, but create further alienation.
I have no problem going on the attack, and have publicly debated the Bishop in my city on numerous occasions. But I will not attack the bystanders for the sake of the cause. It makes me like the bishops, and I personally refuse to become that. I neither condone the inaction of the bystander priests, nor do I condone the outing of bystanders.
Those who actively campaign against us are fair game.
Drewski, I think you made excellent points, and I agree with you.
Marcus, I really hope you are just joking. I mean really, “bystander priests”. that is ridiculous. the same priests that read the horrid letters from the pulpit in Mass and Maine. The same priests that support the church..in fact are committed to its mission…in its efforts to spread hate everywhere it puts down its evil roots. The same priests who are total hypocrites being gay and working for an anti-gay cult.
they sit idly by? They don’t speak out for fear of their jobs? THEY SHOULD QUIT if they don’t want to support the hate machine.
That whore of a church exists to hide a secret all male sex club. All you have to do is look at the history of the early church and then follow its art history record to realize this. Cults are rarely created for some common good, they are created to horde and grow power and this particular cult has done a very good job of that.
Defending your friends for furthering the cause of this hateful cult while secretly not agreeing is shameful. And, they are simply self hating whimps. How could they possibly work for a cult that exresses such hatred against us and themseleves?
Just as with those putting money in the offering plates, they are accessories to murder and should be heald accountable. Every single one of my cult following neighbors who says “I don’t agree with them” is still guilty. And so are your hypocrite priest friends.
Don’t forget, outside our issue, they are peddling hate and fear to enslave minds into their narrow minded cult. Simply wanting to become a priest is a mark of extreme evil in our society to begin with.
We do need to get to that in our society: priest = evil snake oil salesman.
If you read any of the great enlightenment writers, you will see that 300 years ago this was commonly accepted, with many people rejecting the church hierarchy for atheism, deism or mysticism, but today for some reason these evil pigs get respect.
Not from me…and when I see them in public wearing their cult/drag outfits, i tell them.
