BUT here from LA Weekly: tinyurl.com/l4d5x6 is this:

"At Outfest on Sunday afternoon, three-time Emmy winning and openly gay director Todd Holland told a small audience that he advises young, gay male actors to "stay in the closet." The remark came during a panel at the Directors Guild of America titled, "Taking It to the Streets: LGBT Directors Get Political." Outfest, which pushes the slogan "protecting our past, showcasing our present, nurturing our future," is one of the premiere gay and lesbian film festivals in the United States.
Holland, who was talking as one of the featured panelists, and who once worked as a director on the critically acclaimed HBO sit-com The Larry Sanders Show, explained that it's a necessary career choice if a gay actor wants to succeed in Hollywood.

Fellow panelist and gay filmmaker Kirby Dick, director of Outrage, a 2009 documentary about gay politicians who stay in the closet to further their political careers, told Holland: "I know where you're coming from, but it's a regressive argument."

...Holland's comments underscore a decades old problem in Hollywood, where gay and straight studio executives, agents, and other major players often advise up-and-coming gay, male actors to live in the closet. Rarely, though, has someone like Holland been so public with that advice."

Katie Murphy said:

"Loving him doesn’t solve the problem We have to go find CBS headquarters in NYC and call / email them and thank them."

I agree with you 1,000%. Do you know how one would go about finding the phone number/email address?

If you know how, could you post it, here?

You're right, NPH is to be lauded, and your suggestion for "action" is valid.

But only suggesting such a course of action, without providing a means of being able to at least start figuring out how to obtain the needed information, unfortunately is only as valuable as praising NPH.

Here's hoping you have some info that will help those of us who wish to be pro-active get access to the information we need in order to thank CBS.

Thank you, Katie, for the suggestion. I hope many, many people will heed your advice.

Excellent news for Neil, here is one man, a very talented one at that, who seems to have overrode all of the negativity against gay men and women since his own coming out as a gay man in Hollywood. He certainly deserves all of the accolades the entertainment business can give him as well he is a definite positive spokesperson for the Gay Community.

Loving him doesn't solve the problem We have to go find CBS headquarters in NYC and call / email them and thank them.

Movies and the mass media are one of the religious right's nightmares. A platform just as powerful and large as their churches. A platform which is moving more and more to bringing the message of love, tolerance, and equality for LGBT people to the American public. By simply portraying gay people as the normal people they really are. And in effect, ultimately portraying the real right wing extremists as what they are - mentally ill. An induced mental illness.

Something that also, when the average "person in the middle" re gay equality sees gay people as ordinary or extrodinary people, that causes them to question the satanistic rot of the conservative churches.

And that is how, over time, LGBT people will win a significant majority support of the general public.

It reminds me of the churches "protect the children" from gays theme. They think it is their trump card. We want the great majority of parents to realize they need to protect their children from religious hatred. Be it conservative Christian or 10th century extremist Islamic. All the same thing.
