Don’t forget in Colombia gay couples get the same benefits as married heterosexuals.
I wonder how the neo-conservative religious right in america can handle the fact that in Ireland & Italy where the Majority of the people are Catholics are willing to say so what if there gay they want to serve our country with dignity and respect. These two countries are practicing that unfortunately we are forgetting to do here and that is THE SEPERATION OF CHURCH & STATE. Don’t tell FOX NEWS about this they don’t report news they just wish it was the good old days where they believed in everyone is equal just that some are more equal than others. Segregation that’s what Pat Robertson preaches.
Iceland and Costa Rice have NO military anyway.
where is my country Portugal in this list?
Portugal is a very tolerant country with gay marriage next year if all goes ok and socialist party wins again and keep the promise they made. But gays can serve openly in police and army for almost 10 years. Portugal should be on the list
“Jax Said: At Toronto Pride the Canadian Military was actively recruiting gays and lesbians et al during the festivities. Talk about being a World Leader!!”
Same thing for RCMP (ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE). RCMP also actively recruit new potential members in gay communities across Canada too. You may even recall a RCMP gay wedding between two RCMP officers about 3 years ago. See the link:

Depending on where you live… some municipal & provincial police forces in Canada also actively recruit in gay communities too.
So yeah that’s pretty cool.
Don’t the Philippines also belong on this list?
Pepe..as someone pointed out before, just because the colombian army won’t discharge anyone on the basis of sexual orientation, doesn’t mean that gay and lesbian people can serve in the colombian army openly, there are no known cases as far as I know. Also remember that hate crimes against GLBT people are on the rise in Colombia.
This is a pretty good indicator of how far behind the U.S.is on human rights, educational attainment etc. We are still only the “school yard bully” as we become more irrelevant on the world stage.
