I hope it's (gay marriage) not lost in California and that a clearly religious argument doesn't trump our rights. I've yet to hear a non-religious argument on why we shouldn't be able to marry the person of our choice.

But if it does happen, I suggest that Californians start a drive to amend their constitution to ban tax exempt status of religious organizations. You should be able to find over 600k citizens to agree to this.

And ensure that you extend the ban to any church that has a branch in the state. The LDS seem to forget the hatred pointed their way in Navoo, IL and what drove them to SLC. Remind them. Remind the Bishops of the Catholic church of their sins with children; of the evangelicals with the stain of Ted Stevens, Jim Jones, et. al.

Sorry, but if they want to paint us as evil, it's time to turn the mirror on the true evil.

Religious cults have too many rights in the US. For far too long they have been given the right by the government to tyrannize minorities in this country all in the name of their "beliefs". The Constitutional guarantees to freedom of and from religion and the acknowledgment that all people are EQUAL apparently is nullified in the name of filthy religious interests.
"Land of the free"- yeah right. It's only the land of the free if you conform to society's rules on what is acceptable.

It's called HYPOCRISY, Mark. Not new to "the church," nor their followers.
My thought is if they want to "save" marriage, how about a prop. to ban divorce? How about a ban on adultery that calls for stoning as punishment? Sounds good to me. :) I'll vote YES for those!

I don't understand how a church in another state, founded on the principle of polygamy, sometimes with minors, has any business telling adults in California what they can and cannot do.

We'll win this. With so many Obama supporters voting (which no matter what W. says, Obama is a big supporter of gay rights), the young voters will negate the old haters. We will win, but narrowly, is my prediction. And I write as a lesbian whose sister is PASSIONATELY voting YES for this measure. (Sick, I know!) I have faith in the rest of California!! I envision that I will still be married to the love of my life on Wednesday! We must all have faith! And VOTE! Obama/Biden is the ONLY hope for our future of EQUALITY!

I don't understand not legalizating gay marriage. This to me is against our bill of rights they shouldn't discriminate us because we are gay. I know i want to be able to put my significant other my medical insurance and have her last name, and if anything happens to me medically she can do what i want not what my family thinks i want. we all have to marry who we choose. not what teh society wants us to.

i hate to say it, but i think we're going to lose and it's largely due to poor organization on the part of the groups responsible for rolling out our message. they keep blaming money, but they dropped the ball in so many ways. more money would've just given them more chance to screw up. i'll happily eat crow if proven wrong.

(reposting) In an MTV interview entitled “Ask Obama,” which is set to air Monday (November 3) on MTV at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET. Obama again re-iterated his disaproval of gay marriage. “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage. But when you start playing around with constitutions, just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that’s not what America’s about. Usually, our constitutions expand liberties, they don’t contract them.”
