I absolutely know there is a God. I will agree a lot of “very religious” people may not know this. C.S. Lewis said, “I believe in God like I believe in the Sun at noon-day. Not that I can see it, but by it I can see all things. Life makes sense to me Dave. I believe in Spiritual things. I have received a Spiritual witness and all the secularism in the world can’t change that.

Shelly, nice revisionist history.
1. Mormon church leaders secretly practiced polygamy after the 1890 declaration.
2. Women are less than men. The Relief Society is tool to keep them good homemakers, not leaders.
3. Ezra Taft Benson, your late prophet, was a member of many right wing, anti-black groups including the John Birch society. Mormons only fellowshiped blacks at first and then switch positions when they found that to be unpopular.
4) Lying about how anti-gay you are? C’mon its your fucked up view that your marriages are somehow more special than other people’s marriages.

*All* organized religions are BS, but the Mormon “church” is particularly laughable — on a par with the Scientology cult. I have more respect for proponents of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, fer fuxake.

The only churches that are possibly MORE odious than the Mormon cult are the Roman Catholic, Baptist and Pentacostal — and that’s just ‘coz there’s MORE of them.

If it existed, I’d say to hell with them all.

YOU are the one dude that doesnt seem to get it.

If mormons were attacked 1st by gay ppl. or anyone for that matter just because of their religion then I would agree, BUT if you go sticking your foot in an ant pile and you get bit then you will think before you do it again!

I never had a problem with ANY religios group UNTIL NOW! The time for me being or feeling NICE towards people that USE God to justify their ignorant behavior, hateful (yes stopping me from being able to be by my life partner’s bed side while he is dying, because I am not his “legal” spouse is HATEFUL.)

I love the crazy “what would Jesus do?” people. I know he would probably not want to keep two people that love each otehr apart, so when are they (the religious right) gonna face that? I’ve been with my LIFE PARTNER longer then most ppl. have been on this earth. What do they won’t my blood? Do they need Joseph Smith himself to come back and re-preach to them?

Anyway, I don’t condone violence, but you will find it hard to gain sypathy from me for any Organized Religion, they should be spending their money on feeding the poor, not political issues or lose their tax exemptions…

Also as for the spray paint stuff, Have they PROVED that any grafitti was done by LGBT ppl.? hmm. Could be someone from within doing that to make us look bad, why not, that has been known to happen.

OMG, did you go through that horrible Evergreen nonsense too? LOL… It was such a joke. Their idea of making gay men straight is to have them play ‘masculine’ sports, like basketball and baseball, with straight men they recruit from their wards. This way, you see, we could finally have the male bonding we obviously missed out on in the early teenage years, and ‘grow’ out of homosexuality.

Good God, that I ever considered any of that legitimate. Thank God, science does not, and I eventually opened myself up to it. And once I learned the research, and what it meant… I felt relief yes, but also a great deal of rage that I’d been lied to my entire life. So I began wondering what else the Lord’s true church had lied about.

Verily, I saith unto you, it has lied about much.

I spent the next decade reading and studying the real Mormon history. Not the whitewashed made up anti-Mormon crap, but from their own books and by their own authors.

I was both appalled and terrified at what I learned. That men who profess to be of God could knowingly lie and train millions to forfeit their right to think for themselves. “When the prophet speaks, the thinking has been done.” Oh what a sad state of affairs when millions of Americans would buy into this.

So, after I left Evergreen and went to a gay bar for the first time in Salt Lake City, I was amazed at how many “Evergreen graduates’ there were roaming about the place. I am not a bar person, but I went to The Sun for Halloween as Dracula – and to my everlasting delight there were about 100 angel Moroni’s running around blowing their trumps. LOL..

Lost my friends, religion and family too.. and wouldn’t go back to it for anything..

“Religion’s influence over government has reached a point most Western democracies would consider absurd.” ??? Reached a point? We’re trying to MAINTAIN the established tradition of every major society throughout history. Religious influence is decreasing! George Washington MADE his troups attend church. Could he do that today? For goodness sakes, think before you write.

@Robert – you’re my hero for the day. I appreciate the calm historically accurate presentation of the Mormon beliefs. I admit that yesterday I was inflamed over some of the comments and let it get the better of me. Because being raised in a Mormon household I was put through the warefare they engage in…can Roymondo say Evergreen…yup, the concentration camps for gay mormons. The oh so Christ-like manner in which they make you hate yourself so much that death is a better alternative to dealing with SSA as he puts it. It was our own little reserve to go get the gay shocked right out of us. So it took awhile for me to be OK with myself and not hate myself for being gay. He assumes to know those of us who grew up Mormon and gay, but he hides behind the lies of the church and has no real idea what it is like to be taught that you are not whole, not loved, not welcome unless you deny your natural instinct and be just like them. I lost everything in coming out and I am all the happier for it. My biggest fear was losing the church and losing my family – I lost both (like so many other gays) and if I only knew the happiness that waited on the other side of that loss, I would have freely given it up years earlier. So to those that were/are mormons and gay and have maintained some decorum – kudos to you. To those that are gay and mormon and are living in fear and self loathing – love yourself and accept who you are because their is happiness in living your life with integrity!!

There are good people in every religion, including the Mormon faith (Roymondo and Shelly are not those people), but our anger is justifiable considering the discrimination, intolerance, hatred, and persecution the religious right have plagued us with.

Mormon Bishop Church is no more a bigot for his pernicious e-mails urging his followers to reject anything to do with legalizing gay unions/marriages than the many Roman Catholic bishops from the Vatican on down who have advocated marginalization of gays for decades.
