Here is something else Ted Haggard-like — in the same vein, but with a more positive embrace of “real” Christianity. In case you missed it, Sigourney Weaver gave a great performance in a movie, on Lifetime cable TV this weekend, regarding the “Fundy Family versus the Gay Child” acceptance theme.

“Based on a true story and the book by Leroy Aarons, “Prayers for Bobby” is about Mary Griffith, played by Weaver, a devoutly Christian mother who disowns her gay son over his sexuality.

Griffith blames herself for her son’s subsequent suicide, and finds solace not in her church, but PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), and has since become a gay activist.”

“Prayers for Bobby” premiered over the weekend and will be replayed Tuesday night (Jan. 26) on Lifetime TV

…Check it! It is a real tear-jerker. And what made it so much sadder was the fact that it was a true story. Unfortunately, those circumstances will continue to repeat themselves as long as Gay kids have to grow up in families with parents who love hateful mythologies more than their own children.

poor Rev. Ted; I understand that he’s appearing on Oprah and Larry King this week to do some “damage control”; I wonder now, if they’ll have to re-tape these interviews, since it seems that he may have shot himself in the foot; poor baby!

If these new allegations prove to be true, I will not be in the least bit surprised. Notwithstanding Ted Haggard’s guilt, the Church itself must take responsibility as well for it’s part in destroying people’s lives. By it’s very condemnation of homosexuality as a sin and abomination, it alone has driven people to suicide; it has turned parents and families against their gay sons and daughters; it has forced people to lie to protect who they are; through deception and underhandedness they have sought out political power to deny equal rights of marriage and adoption to gay couples all in the name of Christ! Is it little wonder that some people are starting to open their eyes and awaken to the possibility that their religious teachings may not be for them and are seeking other paths towards a healthier and happier life?

In the Bible, Hypocrites are described as the worst sinners! But you can not raise millions quoting those verses!
How sad that the money that little old ladies give ends up in the pockets of a male Jessica Hahn. (as hush money)
People like Ted Haggard make me sick. They are fighting to take away our rights while they are having sex in the closet. Do not even get me started on the Catholics. To bad a church sex scandal did not break out a week before Prop H8 went to vote!

We need to use stuff like this to take the power away from right wing bigots.
