Ousted New York state senator Hiram Monserrate’s supporters’ new campaign ploy is raising the ire of activists across New York City.
Fans of the embattled lawmaker, who was kicked out the Senate last month after being convicted of assaulting his girlfriend, are distributing fliers Queens area churches calling his Democratic rival Assemblyman Jose Peralta a pawn of “mega-rich gay fanatics.”The flier claims Peralta is the “leading spokesperson for the gay community’s [sic] in N.Y.C.” and added those groups “are dedicated to destroying our way of life and creating same sex marriage.” The flier also referred to Peralta as “the gay caballero.”
In a statement, Peralta, who is a gay rights supporter and is endorsed by several state gay rights group, said “This flier is just another example of how Hiram Monserrate thrives on bullying and hate-mongering,” according to the New York Daily News.
Monserrate was targeted by gay rights groups for his no vote on marriage equality. “With each hate-mongering, fear-rattling, equality-stunting volley, Hiram Monserrate digs another foot down into his political grave, said Valerie Berlin, a spokeswoman for Fight Back New York, told the Daily News.
Clear Mr. Monserrate is using LGBT people as a screen to deflect attention from the real issue– the fact he is a man with some clear anger and violence issues.
Just how does he think two men or two women choosing to marry destroys the “way of life” for a loving heterosexual couple who wish to marry, while his choice to beat up on women does not?
Politically punish those who voted “no,” and support and rally around those who did or will vote “yes.”
It’ll happen…it takes work over time, though.
I would think that this A$$HOLE would not stand a chance unless all of the women voters in his district are completely brain dead.
No surprise….want to rally your bigoted base? head straight to the churches. How sad, people allow their brains to be controlled by the thought-police-in-drag and the priests see no issue allowing politicos to use that demented state to make people act on their hate agenda.
Really, what does any of this have to do with pressing needs of New York? Politicians don’t care, they are there for the power and connections, not to do good. Priests don’t care, they have a flock drinking out of their hands and turning them into hating bigots is just fine as long as it keeps the pews (and offering plates) full.
I see a pattern here. Oh, we are supposed to care about all humans, fight for the most downtrodden? Nice tag line but not if it gets in the way of fucking little boys.
Its a confluence of sick with power and sick with delusional thought control. Very dangerous.
