Earlier this week, Zikerria Bellamy filed a complaint against McDonald’s for refusing to hire her because she is transgender.
One of the managers left a detailed voice mail message on Bellamy’s phone in July, saying “It doesn’t matter how many times you go down there, you will not get hired. We do not hire faggots. You lied to me.”That manager has been fired.
A spokeswoman for McDonald’s told the Orlando Sentinel that the person who left the voice message for Bellamy with antigay slurs was let go. She said that the employee “acted outside the scope of his authority and was not responsible,” adding “[McDonald’s] has a zero tolerance policy prohibiting discrimination or harassment in the restaurant.”
Bellamy, 17, who has been living as a woman for six years, said that on two separate occasions in July, she tried to get an interview at the Orlando McDonald’s. Two separate managers refused to hire her.
The Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF) then filed the complaint with the Florida Commission on Human Relations on Bellamy’s behalf.
Although one of the managers has been fired as a result of the derogatory statements made in the recording, McDonald’s did not indicate what happened to the second manager.
How long until the AFA begins a boycott of McDonalds for doing the right thing?

We as a group should boycott Chick-fil-A. They ROUTINELY fire employees due to sexual orientation and their corporate office condones it by saying the franchisees have the right to run the franchise the way they want. Also, the founder, Truett Cathy is a MAJOR contributor to the anti-gay group, Focus on the Family.
The gay dollar is plentiful and powerful–a boycott would hit Chick-fil-A where it hurts.
This was obviously coming. Anyone who is dim-witted enough to make a comment like that, especially on a voicemail, should lose their job. It’s unethical.

It is right for McDonalds to fire that manager, and I applaud that.
However, it is bigoted and hateful, for people to refer to this man who is living as a female, as a she.
Even in the lamest sense, a person has to have the full transexual operation before there is a gender change.
In the real sense, a man is defined as X and Y chromosomes and females as X and X chromosomes.
It is an insult and an attack all woman, to define a man dressing as a woman, as a woman. Where is the womb, required is WOmbMAN?
A seven figure judgement is just plain stupid. If a verdict is entered against McDonalds, based on the pay, how long it reasonably takes one in similar circumstances to recover, he might get $50,000, which would be $30,000 after lawyer fees.
Harry, how is it bigoted and hateful to refer this person as a woman? Chomosomes determine the sex, not gender. Gender is all mentality.

Chromosomes and Gender:
Chromosomes are long, stringy aggregates of genes that carry heredity information. They are composed of DNA and proteins and are located within the nucleus of our cells. Chromosomes determine everything from hair color and eye color to gender. Whether you are a male or female depends on the presence or absence of certain chromosomes.
Human cells contain 23 pairs of chromosomes for a total of 46. There are 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes. The sex chromosomes are the X chromosome and the Y chromosome. These chromosomes determine gender.
It sounds to me like Harry is the one in need of a little trans education. I’m at work so I can’t take the time to respond but I hope someone fluent on the topic of gender can provide some friendly education for Harry.
Harry, if anyone needs education here, it’s you. Chromosomes determine your sex, which is 100% PHYSICAL. Gender is how you feel on the INSIDE, hence how some people can be born of one sex but feel they are the other gender. See the difference? This is why it’s good form to call a transgendered person by the pronouns they identify as. Any transgendered person or advocate will tell you that.
Harry, who the heck are you really? Your use of Harry Hay’s name is downright insulting to the late Mr. Hay.
Harry (or whoever you are), it is time for a lot of education! When discussing gender identity, gender refers to the identity of the mind. Sex refers to the physical sex of the body, normally determined genetically…most of the time. Google intersex (assuming you can read the big words, your alleged degrees notwithstanding). While you’re at it, Google androgen insensitivity and gender identity. See if you can get past your hatred and read with an open mind.

Perhaps you need a little education today Harry.
There are actually two types of sex in the body both of which are determined by your chromosomes. The body sex and the brain sex. In your average person the sexes are the same. In a Transgender person they do not line up and thus you get a transgender person who identifies with the sex of their brain.
I am going to have to concur with Sarah on the part about how this is bigoted.

Fascinating stuff.I think you need to rethink your ideas about transgender people. It is not just you either it is the community as a whole.
First, chromosomes may be the blueprint but mom’s hormones don’t always follow it. Chromosomes, genitalia, internal organs, and gender frequently don’t line up one way or another. To expect gender and sex to line up 100% of the time is just as silly as expecting men to always be attracted to women or women to men.
Good for McDonald’s! The manager made a hateful statement and must take the consequences. If groups like the American (anti) Family Association or Americans for (Denying) Truth About Homosexuality wish to boycott McDonalds, then let us respond by filling the mailboxes of these pretend Christians groups with letters to hold them accountable for their support of bigotry and discrimination.
