Hey "Dave" are you aware of the FACT that the state of maine was the ONLY(as far as I know)New England State to have a chapter of the KKK! Oh, and let's not forget that itty bitty little Human Rights Repeal that happened back in '98 making Maine the VERY first state to ever repeal civil rights for a minority group! Betcha kinda forgot about THAT one eh Mr. Dave? For the life of me I cannot fathom the native mainers "falling over backward" for you and your partner! LMAO! Mainers are among the most snobby, stand offish class of homophobes I've ever encountered in my life! Shame too, as Maine is such a pretty state. Pretty state. Undereducated people though. Guess that "kinda" flavor just appeals to the tourists though, huh. IF and I mean IF Maine ever passes a Marriage Equality bill it will more than likely be the LAST New England State to do so! Central/Northern Mainers will fight it TOOTH AND NAIL every step of the way. Thank you for your time. Peace out. Ayuh. LMAO!

Shawn W,
I refer you to Equality Maine,(EQME) those people said they wouldb't be pushing for marriage equality if they didn't feel it had a chance.
EQME said that the governor of Maine and both houses of the Maine legislature were supportive of marriage equality. Right now Maine has domestic partnerships for same-sex couples. Michael Heath's Civic League of Maine is I read beset by money woes, they couldn't unlike EQME get their message out to the voters(EQME which had well trained and eager volunteers at polling places around Maine able to persuade voters not to vote away equal rights for all Maine citizens.

Civic League of Maine had to give up and pull back their antigay efforts. They could see that not enough of Maine was on the side inequality to make it worth their while to hoodwink the voters, and their volunteers were few and not well trained.

and of gradualism, well the things I am talking of for 2009..2009 is here now! and the bills are to be submitted in this year! you want faster and faster throughout USA, get rid of federal DOMA and things will rapidly improve nationwide and at the US entry points with their US customs booths on the borders and inside of Canadian airports miles inside of Canadian territory (which is US federal level stuff anyone who has been through US customs booths at Canadian airports in Ottawa and Toronto as I have know what I am talking about) with federal level DOMA repealed.
Because of Federal DOMA, states are told they don't have to recognize marriage equality, the full faith and credit clause of the constitution re: the marriages in other states can be ignored, social security and veterans benefits aren't granted the surviving partner in same-sex relationship, etc.
Kick away federal DOMA and the "house marriage inequality cards will soon fall down in a heap" and that has the opponents of equality very anxious. They want very much for federal DOMA to stay even though the author of the federal DOMA himself now wants the federal DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) he wrote repealed.

You're right, Morgan. While 365gay.com ran three stories on it in 2008, it hasn't run a single report on this major news item since the legislation went into effect Jan. 1. What a shame...

Wow! talk about a freudian slip! Thanks for the catch. Amazing, if one types too fast, thoughts come out and you don't even see them.

I find it amazing that the first states to recognize any same sex freedons are our countries first areas to be populated and brought into statehood over 250 years ago. Just looking at that timeline is it going to take another 50 years for recognizion and acceptance to come around again?
