The twwo most significant events in the last few months are the acceptance of Gay people in relationships as pastors by the evangelical luthern and episcopal churches.

The Episcopals have lost about 5% of their people / churches. And prob will lose another 5% with the latest change. Let them go. They are the older buggers for the most part anyway.

And I expect that the lutherans will have a similar situation.

And the Presbyterians came close to officially approving gay pastors in relationships, much closer then last time. Next time maybe two years off, count them in.

And if you belong to another church that does not support gay equality check the Episcopal church out - especially if you belong to the home of depravity supreme - the catholic church under a pope who learned his lessons growing up in hitlerite germany.

And if the Lutherans - ELCA (there are two other luth groups that are not actively bad against gays, but not fully welcoming) Check them out also. Remember they are the outgrowth of the first big break with the longest lived monstrosity in western history, Rome. Who also created the hatred of the Jews. And you know what that led to in WWII.

When I was 12 my mother insisted I go to Bible school. I tried to say NO but she would not hear of it and forced me to go anyway. I started asking questions that the teacher could not answer without lying. Shortly there after I got kick out because I asked to many logical questions. It was plain to me then just as it is now religion is nothing more than some ideas that were put down in writing, with the idea that no one would dare ask questions as if they did they were atheists or heretics.
So, why should we give any money to any religious organization? Do they deserve the money? I would say no/yes. Yes, they do some good but the damage that they do do tips the balance against them. It is not just damage they do with their teaching of hate (although they would probably disagree) religions have been responsible for more wars and death(and misery) than any other organization. I am talking through all of history now.
Save you money and give it to some non religious based organization that does what you think is a good job at spending the money wisely.

Sounds like this bishop is acting more like a CEO than anything else. Churches used to be social communities, but in modern times have become businesses.

"withholding funding would hurt the church’s mission"

Yeah, that mission seems to be to make more money than to be moral/spiritual/whatever.

How sad. Some people high up in one of these hated cults tries to fix things and his followers just want to destroy the organization rather than accept progress.

This is a real problem with humanity. We have this weakness that lets us believe fairy tales because it sounds nice to live forever.

that weakness gets taken advantage of to drive people to do the bidding of hateful bigots that are power hungry. We get the RCC, Mormons and prop 8 as a result.

Then some leaders decide they want to improve the cults image, but they've done such a good job at brainwashing the sheep, they can't get them off topic!

There is an answer: evolve beyond belief.

The religious apologists that read this site will of course disagree...but someday they will evolve and realize that they don't need these cults, even the ones trying to "make nice".

They need a social club, but found a church.
