Kari and Traci,

The dems in the house passed non-discrimination employment protections, twice. Almost every house Democrat vote it and almost every house Republican voted against it. Surely if you follow the political process, you are aware of these votes. Or do you just plain ignore them in blind alleginace to the Republican party, the party of right wing Christian religious bigots, of whom Plain is their new champion.

Senator McCain is consistently dishonest whenever he is asked about equal treatment for gays & lesbians. He says he respects their rights to enter into private agreements. Telling us we can spend thousands of dollars drafting partnership contracts does not tell us whether he is for or against equal tax treatment for committed couples, or equal treatment for sponsoring immigrant spouses. He won't tell us whether he would sign or veto a repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, or DOMA or the ENDA or hate crimes legislation. He just changes the subject and spouts gibberish. He is not our friend.

An LGBT person voting republican would be similar to a Jewish person voting for the nazi party "because they have a good economic plan." Every LGBT should read the republican platform (you can find it online), it's AGAINST any equality for us.

Yep. 4 out of 7 justices in CA voted to strike down the ban on gay marriage. Two (George and Werdregar) are Wilson appointees. One (Kennard) was appointed by Deukmejian. Both Wilson and Deukmejian were republican governors who appointed republican judges. The fourth vote was from Moreno, the lone democratic appointee (he was appointed by Davis) and only democrat on the 7 member bench. At the end of the day I don't point this out in an effort to support the republican party. I've never voted republican and never will. The george bush years were horrible ones whose negative legacy will remain with us for years to come. And yes, I hate bush. In fact I despise him for dragging us in to a horrible war (that had full bipartisan support by the way)and creating a culture of god and guns which I find abhorrent. With that said, it's not like gay people fared any better or worse during his time in office. In my mind it's choosing the lesser of two evils. And if there are some prosperous gays out there who choose to vote with their wallets, who cares. It's their choice. It doesn't mean they are terrible people or hate themselves. It just means they are pragmatic and know that neither party is going to actively do anything for them. so they may as well do something for themselves. At least they're getting something out of it. Wake up people: American politics is a race to the bottom. And the bottom is the least common denominator. Since there is nothing 'common' about being gay, we are always going to be on the outs. For the near future anyway. I want to hope for more, but I'm a bit too cynical. And Barack Obama, with all of his talk of hope spends more time pumping up the hope of white middle class, hetero america than anything else. That's how you win elections. Since I'm none of those things it's hard to care...

Michael!

Certainly you can't be correct!?!?! You mean 3 or the 4 supreme court judges really are Republican? And were they really appointed by a Republican Governor?

That's just not possible, based upon the comments I read on these boards. But then, most on the boards seem to be Democrats. You know the people that gave us Don't Ask Don't Tell, DOMA and no meaningful legislations with two years controlling the House and Senate.

It seems to me neither party is perfect so why vocalize frustration at the small minority of gays and lesbians who vote republican. The fact is that neither party speaks to us directly in a meaningful way. Clinton gave us 'don't ask, don't tell' and DOMA. Obama still claims that marriage is for a man and woman. Arguably the most recent greatest advances in civil rights for gays and lesbians have occurred in MA and CA. In MA marriage rights were granted under the watch of a republican governor. And 3 of the 4 supreme court justices in CA who granted gays and lesbians the right to marry were republicans appointed by republican governors. So which party is doing more for gays and lesbians? It's not so clear. Don't get me wrong: In November I'll vote for Obama. But I don't deny gay republics the right to vote for mccain and scary sarah (she frightens the jesus right out of me!) Not only for the reasons above but also becuase the democratic party has gotten too complacent in terms of assuming it has my vote. Maybe we should be looking at these log cabin club folks as doing us a favor. Not every gay vote can be taken for granted. Without that realization I don't think we ever would have made it to the democratic party platform for the first time in 2008. That's really sad when you say it out loud...2008, first year the democrats even acknowledge me. And I've been voting for them for over 20 years...

Well said Marc. The only legacy of the Bush Administration is the birth of the "Divided States of America" - supported by extremist idealogues. THs country has been run by a bunch of nut jobs for too long and now they are looking to extend the run of this hateful and destructive freak show.

Gay Republicans are lost, self hating individuals who think that they will be accepted as "main stream" wholesome people by middle America by supporting the GOP. How sad. There were Jews who supported the Nazis though, so I guess anything is possible.

Sarah Palin is a complete Christian extremeist of the worst type. She's against abortion even in cases of rape or incest!... She wants to teach creationism in public schools! Mc Cain USED TO BE a socially moderate "maverick", but to pursue his own selfish political ambitions, he's made it clear that he's more than willing to bend to the extremeist demands of the Christian right. He once rightly called Fallwell and Roberts "agents of intollerance", now he's kissing their ass and giving speeches at their nutty "universities". Some "maverick" huh? What a joke. Now he supports a constitutional ammendment telling us who we can marry? Maverick? A man who follows HIS core beliefs? He needs the Bible thumping base of the GOP to win.

These people don't care about the economy, health care, social security, education, taxes, unfair trade policies etc. I guess in these times, one needs to appeal to the voters who will overlook ALL of these REAL issues for the sake of stupidity like telling others who to marry and teaching ONE RELIGIONS creation myths in American science classes!...I guess these folks don't care about health care or the economy as their predicting to be "raptured up" any day.

This country and GAYS particularly are DOOMED if McCain Palin get in. The consistently liberal judges on the Supreme court are the very oldest and most likely to retire or die. Bush has already tilted the court to neocons. ONE more GOP appointment to the court under McCain/Palin and 50 years of social progress WILL BE TURNED BACK within a year! Also remember that the GOP has only appointed justices in their early 40's.

Can we start a movement to seperate the U.S. into two separate nations, one for liberals and one for conservatives?
