I VOTE THE LESBIAN! Oh....wait, maybe I should look at the issues as well. Obama's appointees so far have not dazzled me, so I am not expecting much outta this one.

The blather frothing up through the media favours Sonja Sotomayer because she's a Clinton appointee, Latina & a Yale graduate. Secret societies & all. Menstruator, I believe it will be a woman & in any event I expect a big improvement over Roberts, Thomas, and that vile Scalia. Maybe someone literate? That would be refreshing.

Sullivan sounds kind of like our Thurgood Marshall. Let's hope for her advancement.

We need more women on the court. 1 of 9? It's an embarrassment. Plus, we need liberals who will be there a looong time, and women tend to live longer than men. So give me a hair-on-fire liberal female. Nothing less.

Deval Patrick also has an openly gay daughter and is very supportive of her. I know nothing of his politics around LGBT issues, but that is at least something...

Since President Obama has yet to show much in the way of courage or competence in office, I have no hope of him appointing a qualified progressive, much less a lesbian. This is a chance to prove progressives wrong though. My biggest concern with ethnic minority appointments is homophobia (which Obama himself shows). Anything less than unqualified support for marriage equality is not acceptable at this point. I'd rather have a white, hetero male who supports LGBT equality than a woman or ethnic minority that does not.

My attitude is let the best and brightest win regardless of gender get retiring Justice Souter's position even though I want very much to see more women on the US Supreme Court bench. This court in the past has had too many men and not enough women there. And I have been waiting long enough for our country to have a female president like various other countries do.

When Bush was in power, he made sure he stacked the Supreme Court with 5 republicans. Now the republicans are whining about progressive democrats to the bench. I only hope Obama grows a pair and appoints two or three liberal women assuming any others step down or die. Its about time we had a court stacked in favor of the democrats for a change. Give the other side a dose of its own medicine.
