Knicks’ Ed Curry sued for sex harassment by male driver

(New Orleans, Louisiana) A man who worked as a driver for Eddy Curry is suing the New York Knicks center, alleging Curry owes him money, sexually harassed him and berated him with racist slurs.

Curry denies the allegations.

“I’m shocked, really,” said Curry, who missed the Knicks’ 101-95 victory at New Orleans on Monday night with right knee soreness. “He approached my friends a while back, trying to get money. I just never, ever thought it would go past what it did, which was just idle threats, money-or-else kind of stuff.”

Dave Kuchinsky alleges in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in New York that Curry owes him $98,000 in back pay and expenses, according to a story in the New York Post. Newsday reported Tuesday that Kuchinsky is also seeking $5 million in compensatory damages.

Kuchinsky also accuses Curry of exposing himself and harassing the former driver and said Curry referred to his Jewish heritage in a derogatory way, calling him a “cracker,” “white slave,” “white devil” and “grandmaster of the KKK.”

Curry said he never made such comments.

“Everyone who knows me knows I’m not a racist. I’ve never made a comment like that, playing, or nothing,” Curry said. “Aside from the fact I wouldn’t do it because I’m not racist, I wouldn’t do it because I wouldn’t want someone to play with me like that. That’s incredible, man.”

Curry, 26, is married with four children. He is in his eighth NBA season and fourth with the Knicks. He has played in only one game this season because of knee injuries.

The lawsuit comes a little more than a year after former Knicks team president and coach Isiah Thomas was found by a jury to have sexually harassed former team executive Anucha Browne Sanders. MSG, the company that owns the Knicks, was ordered to pay $11.6 million in damages.

Curry portrayed the lawsuit against him as a desperate ploy for money by Kuchinsky, who was his employee for three years ending last October.

“It’s like a prime example of you got to watch who’s around you,” Curry said. “This is a guy who I really thought he was my friend up until the last four, five months. I can’t even believe this happened. … I can’t believe it went this far. I can’t believe someone would represent something like that.”

    • Unfortunately, I fear that this site is going the way of 24 hour news channels. When nothing relevant is happening, dig through the garbage.

Based on the article, neither party in this confrontation is gay. Allegedly exposing yourself to someone of the same sex makes the story relevant to a gay publication? Come on, people!

    • This was a mainstream news story. I doubt 365gay.com has the budget for teh number of people it would take to sift through and personally hand select every single story it uses. Be thankful for what you get and if you don’t think the coverage of it is adequate, add The Advocate website to your daily reading or do a news.google.com search under the word “gay” and sort by date – that should pretty much cover everything that’s out there (inclduing all the CRAP that 365gay.com DOES screen out).

    • 365gay.com can’t even bring us an uplifting story about Norway’s gay marriage that went into effect on the very first day of 2009 but sure can bring us lowly, irrelevant and controversial crap of a titillating nature that has ZILCH to do with the national and/or international gay community.

    • This story actually appears in other non-GLBT news sources. The sensationalism is not unique to 365gay.

On another matter related to this website, I think it’s really telling that there was no news posted between December 23 and January 5. Did the editors think we would not notice? Or did they think the world stopped dead still to over 10 days?

    • Isn’t there a maxim that if you want people to treat you fairly that you should treat them fairly?

I believe that journalists should be reluctant to report allegations. By their nature, allegations are not facts. If there are audio or video tapes which people and hear and see for themselves, that is somewhat better. We Gays should be more sensitive to the impact of reporting allegations.

    • I think this is a B.S. story! It’s
      extortion,plain & simple. The guy
just wants money. How is this even relevant to the gay community?

    • Personally, I think this is a relevant story. We all know that seemingly heterosexual individuals engage in same-sex flirting and in some cases even sex. If the allegations are true, this could be an interesting, high-profile example. I think it’s a novel part of understanding sexual orientation.

    • Michael,
It is just typical of the sensationalism of 365gay.com.
This “news” service can’t even tell us about Norway marrying its gay couples on the 1st day of 2009 but is has no trouble finding the sensational and the controversial. It can come up with a Larry Craig story faster than you can snap your fingers.
This is just another “filler” story for 365gay.com even though it has nothing to do with the gay community.

  • Michael Said: January 13th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
    • Why is this even reported here? 365 gay is pretty lame in it’s coverage…they miss obvious stuff, report way later than others or come up with crap like this. Does it even have an editor? Who runs this thing anyway. It’s the journalistic equivalent of a fuster cluck.
