Kentucky anti-gay adoption bill officially dies

(Frankfort, Kentucky) Legislation that would bar unmarried couples in Kentucky from adopting or fostering children was declared officially dead Wednesday after the state Senate’s GOP leadership declined to schedule a vote.
The measure passed a key committee last week and was sent for a vote on the floor of the Senate. But with the current session set to end on Friday, the bill was not placed on the agenda.Even if the bill won Senate approval, it would have to be sent to the House and passed there before the end of the week.
The sponsor of the legislation, Sen. Gary Tapp (R) said he hopes to bring back the measure in the next session. But even then its future is uncertain.
The measure said that anyone “cohabitating with a sexual partner outside of marriage” cannot be considered as a foster or adoptive parent.
Although the bill would affect all unmarried couples living together it was seen as specifically targeting same-sex couples.
Last week the vote in the Justice Committee was called an ambush by opponents.
The meeting was announced just as the Senate was being adjourned for the day. Opponents said Friday that no notice was given that the committee was about to hold a vote on the bill. it passed 9-0 with no discussion.
A week earlier, close to 200 people demonstrated against the measure at the Capitol, calling the legislation “a hate bill.” The LGBT civil rights group The Fairness Campaign organized the rally.

vote no gay marriages if you oppose same sex marriages.
Great news! Hopefully this stinking piece of legislation will rot and not be brought up again in the next session.
this bill should have been dead. let all who wants to adopt thats single and feel that they are up to the job of raising a child and giving it love and the support do that! because im all for that, for every man, or woman, weather straight, or gay, or lesbian, or trangender. may not find true love, they may just want to know how it feels to raise a child. and show that child that they have someone there who cares, about them and their well being!! it is only human nature to want to raise, or mother, or father a child.
It would not be lawful even it was passed.
First of all cohabitating is not a word, the proper usage would be “cohabiting.” But what do you expect from an close minded world?
Secondly didn’t we go through this with sodomy? the Supremes basically said that the government is not in the business of the bedroom. How is the government going to know who is “cohabitating with a sexual partner outside of marriage” ? Did I miss something? All you would have to do is say, “no we aren’t having sex.” If you want to try and prove it, we can take it back to the Supreme Court.
The only lawful way you could write into law that we homos can’t adopt, is by allowing adoption “only to legally married persons.” Which I believe is what Arkansas did.
Thank God this hateful bill has died! I hope it’s contagious, and the other hate bill in Tennessee will die as well.
