Kansas city woman assaulted at Omaha pride

(Omaha) A Kansas City woman was assaulted during Omaha’s Pride Parade earlier in the month reports the Pitch. Kendra Konrady was placed in a headlock by 66-year-old Omaha resident William Crilly after she threw Human Rights Campaign stickers at the man’s float.

Konrady had travelled to Omaha as a volunteer for the Human Rights Campaign. She had been walking along the parade route passing out stickers when she saw Crilly’s float. The man had a rainbow colored wagon with a banner on it saying “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ Our Lord.”

Konrady was attacked after she threw several stickers with the HRC emblematic equal sign on them into Crilly’s float.

“He had me in a head lock and I was kind of flailing,” she said. “I’m a pacifist through and through, but this dude just attacked me.”

Crilly was arrested for assault following the incident. As news spread of the event, parade goers flocked to the HRC’s booth, which signed up 159 new members following Konrady’s attack.

    • Thought the parade organizers would have an exact known number of pre-approved floats all set to enter the parade in a certain pre-approved and known order at a certain time.

I can’t believe that they would have given prior approval to this kind of display.

    • I am a gay Christian and gladly so.
To paint all Christians as the same is not true. People do have a right to a spiritual life or not to have one, but there are many Christians who either gay or gay-friendly. Being a Chrstian doesn’t mean your are going to a la Crilly, come up with a “rainbow wagon” condemning people for different from you.

And Jessi, I am 56 and I have followed your advice for years and rediscovered my faith and started to re-attend church 9 years ago. Best decision I’ve made. My life is enriched because of it and there is no other place I’d rather be more than that on Sunday. And also I don’t belittle and disrespect people for being atheists. Atheism is again “not my cup of tea” same as faith is not “your cup of tea”.

    • If he wasn’t gay and his message was meant to “condemn” gay people, how did he get it into the parade? No gay pride float would be allowed within 10 blocks of a religious parade. Very odd.

    • while it is probably unprovable, I would bet the old bigot knew just what he was doing when he showed up with a rainbow painted cart. He’s a Fred Phelps wannabe.

    • R & R: I doubt they know what hate is either. They think gay rights groups are hate organizations for advocating public policy that treats all citizens as equals.

They may practice hate constantly, but if they’re unaware of it, they don’t understand it.

    • I’m with Rud F. and I’m a U. S. citizen. What was an anti-Gay float and homophobes doing in a GAY PRIDE PARADE?

    • And who really expects the Chritian Taliban membership to know what love is? Do know what hate is; they practice it daily.
