"“It’s discrimination against people who view marriage as a bond between and man and a woman.”"

Bullsh!t. Can Catholic Justices of the Peace refuse to marry divorced people, since 'real' Catholics view marriage as ONLY between non-divorced persons? Or what about infertile or elderly persons (since, according to some religionists, the very 'purpose' of marriage is procreation)?

How friggin' lame can they get? If they can't (or more accurately WON'T) do their jobs, they should have the integrity to quit or should be fired.

There is a huge difference between freedom of expression and the right to refuse to do your public service job. Any justice of the peace who is a fundie has the right to tell someone that they don't agree with them, but must also be willing to perform their job anyway. If the state of CT has non-discrimination laws that protect gay people, anyway. That's why it is so important that we have a Federal non-discrimination law that covers gay people. Right now it would probably be legal for a justice of the peace to refuse a gay couple in 36 states in this country.

Its their job to follow the law. And the law says they cant discriminate against gay people. If these so-called "justices" wont act within the law then they need firing, or they must resign.

Fact: Clergy are protected by virtue of being a religious institution, as such they cannot and should not be forced to marry against their church......

However......

a Justice of the Peace has no such protection. They chose to serve the public, ALL of them, not just the ones they agreed with. If the Justice of the Peace is unable or unwilling to do his/her job, then they have two choices, quit or be fired.

Discussion over

I mean really, if it's not racism for the color of your skin then it's racism for whom you love, in twenty years it'll be something else! To think that these Justices swore an oath to up hold the law regardles of personal or religous beliefs and are now imposing their own personal views and beliefs to interpret the law is I think a direct violation of the law and they should be punished if they refuse! We(as citizens) are held in contempt if we refuse to up hold the law or carry out a courts ruling why are they any different?
