Jamaican woman asks not to be deported due to her sexuality

(United Kingdom) A Jamaican woman is asking the British immigration department to not deport her back to Jamaica because she is a lesbian. The woman has been convicted for dealing in illegal drugs by a British court.

In 2005, she was sent to prison after being convicted for supplying “class A” drugs. While at prison, the unnamed woman entered into lesbian relationships with fellow inmates.

According to the Jamaican Observer, British immigration officials do not believe the woman and say her claims are just “a ruse to avoid deportation.”

The United Kingdom and the United States have granted asylum to Jamaican gays in the past because of the extreme levels of homophobia in the island nation.

    • Well, I think that she should pay for her crimes. Americans who travel abroad and are caught trafficking drugs, do hard time, and are treated very inhumane. I’m a straight female, but would love to move to Canada where gays are treated like respectable citizens. I love America, but I’m so tired of all the homophobia here.

    • I don’t know if she is gay but if they can prove it she should not be deported. Both my parents are Jamaican and when i came out to them about me being a lesbian, shit hit the fan. My dad is still telling me he should disown me. I am 18, when i came out i was 16. Jamaica’s views on homosexuality is so ignorant it is hard to believe.

    • I agree with Bob from Arlingoton, Va. that last comment was nothing more than a bigoted gratuitous insult without supporting evidence.

I also agree that she doesn’t seem to have any history of lesbian attachements before she was convicted. Breaking the law is a poor repayment for a country that takes you in.

    • Send the bitch back! She’s not in the UK because she escaped Jamaica due to persecution. Why visit a country where you’ll constantly be afraid for your life because of who you are?? That’s one country I have no desire whatsoever to visit. It’s a blip worth missing in world travel.
