I've read that Islam, as practice in parts of eastern asia, is much more progressive.

The whole issue is separation of church and state. And to stop funding the abortion called Saudi arabia, and the other states where the royalty do whatever they want (booze, little girls, boys etc) while covering their ass by selling out to the wahabi extremist brand of Islam.

Of course, they do in a sense have a right to be pissed. Corrupt popes conspired with corrupt kings to send the christian armies 13 or 14 times into the middle east and north Africa during the pereiod 900-1500.

And upwards of 50 million people were murdered in the name of Jesus and God. No wonder those people hate us.

And the current pope just unexcommunicated a holocaust denier. Sieg Heil Mein ChurchFuhrer. You really learned your lessons well growwing up in Nazi germany.

Isn't pretending to speak for God or claiming to know His mind and plan(s) blasphemy?

Isn't accusing God, even indirectly of making mistakes, blasphemy? It's pretty audacious to point an accusatory finger at God, allude that He is static, then put Him on trial.

What is more rebellious, to be a homosexual, or to sneer at God and deride His creations? Only Satan's minions would have the audacity to judge God's work.
I'm always surprised that these talking heads aren't put on trial for speaking the unknowable.

Just to clarify - These are muslims from Indonesia (Australia's direct neighbour and the world's most populated muslim country - around 280 million). Although they have their own share of radicals and terrorists (Bali Bombings etc), I have never heard of gays being murdered in Indonesia - as opposed to Iraq etc...

That is actually a really big step for Islam. They are very anti-gay, or they were. Islam is a very nice religious, must less violent than Christianity. Although, nowadays, all the major religions have become violent. Well, except Buddhism, which I try to follow.

Pinkfone and David I'd like to clarify.

Yes there is only one voice of catholicism, the Pope, but comparing Catholicism to Islam is incorrect. You should be comparing christianity to islam, as they are both large umbrellas united in their following of a common text and history but having many different sects under them.

The roman cult is just one version of christianity and there is no surprise they have one view of the acceptance of bigotry.

Other christian cults do not accept such bigotry, while many do and some simply do not agree.

So, yes, we know where we stand from catholic cultists, but as with Islam, we do not know where we stand with christianity as you'd have to ask which cult are you interested in knowing where we stand with.

I just find the quote about humanism hilarious: "The essence of the religion is to humanize humans, respect and dignify them" Wishful thinking I say, and a poor attempt to sugar coat cultish behaviour by someone who wants to attract a more liberal membership. The truth is religion is about enslaving minds, closing minds to thinking for oneself and is not at all about humanizing humans. It is about dehuminiziung us. Turning us into brainwashed sheep that don't use the very human qualities of reason and intellect to determine how to live one's life.

Even the so-called "liberal" sects, they are nothing about humanism, humanizing etc. They are about growing the power of certain humans and if they need to soften their message to attract gullable liberals, they do. This doesn't change that what they are about is mind control for the weak, poor and needy. (and I mean needy in a very broad sense. need to be loved, to feel important, to be a part of a group). They are classic cults and as we know cults are about the enigmatic leaders, not the followers (their money, yes).

That's because there's one central voice in the Catholic faith, and that comes from the Pope (in most cases. I know that there's an independent Catholic faith that doesn't abide by the Pope's rules, but those are the exceptions). In Islam, there is no one central voice to do that. So you'll have multiple interpretation, and one saying the other is right and so on and so forth.

Here we go again! Half the time we are told that Jihad is wrongly intepreted! I wish these Muslim scholars would just set the ruled down and then we know where we all stand! (at LEAST you know where the Catholic Church stands onthis!)

A small step for progress but for Islam to prove its a peaceful cult, which it isn't, why does it continue to support the execution of their gay citizens?

That's actually a pretty big step. For the longest time I had thought this religion was a lost cause to LGBT's and largely ignored because of it.
Let the religions stew for a while and they will see the err of their ways I suppose.
Then again: "“It’s a sin. We will not consider homosexuals an enemy, but we will make them aware that what they are doing is wrong.”
What this person does not realize is that he, like so many, didn't really check what exactly the texts are saying and to whom. "Arsenokoites" is a great example to follow in this regard. Blindly believing lies is what these religions do best.
So yea. Let them stew for a while...as we turn up the heat.
