I respect Sean Penn & consider him one of the greatest actors of our time, as well as an enlightened human being. Schwarzenegger is not, however, and the proof is in his reasoning for the veto: Milk’s “contributions should continue to be recognized at the local level by those who were most impacted by his contributions.” Fairly disengenuous considering that we in S.F. live more freely as part of Milk's legacy; while outside the Bay Area much of the state wallows in ignorance of Milk's contributions to freedom, and bigotry, extremism, and homophobia flourishes. The governor knows this well and has to kiss the asses of his GOP constituency.

If Arnold does not veto this bill it will have more to do with his lame-duck status than his personal integrity. Still, if he does the right thing this time, for once, everyone will be better off.

I'm not as certain as Sean is that the governor will change his position on this legislation, but you can be sure that I am praying he does.
