I don't think it's a settled matter by any means, whether in Iowa or anywhere else. The tipping point has already come, but saying that is like saying that the Civil Rights Act put an end to racism or discrimination. Yes, vigilance is necessary, but one significant difference between Iowa and California is that Iowa law doesn't allow for the freewheeling voter initiatives which are so popular in California and other Western states. Also, Prop 8 passed because California gay groups were too ashamed to put gays on the TV or in print ads, and they did nothing to reach out to non-English-speaking voters--a huge omission.

The battles aren't over, but the war is. We won. And we will fight to maintain our victories. Look around the country, and you see that politicians are coming to our side because they see that the votes are with us, not the bigots.

I'm a little disturbed by all the over confidence I'm reading here. The Governor's Republican challenger says he will be a Governor who listens to the 'will of the people.' That is the problem with Conservatives, they don't understand that we are to be governed by constitutions.

But consitutions provide for processes to be used by the people to force their will.

I'm quite nervous that it only takes a mere majority to set in motion a constitutional convention.

I believe a strong majority of Iowans would vote against marriage equality. Therefore, I believe they will vote to have the convention. I do not know how delegates are chosen, but odds are they would vote to uphold the will of the majority.

It would be such a devastating setback if they reverse marriage equality there and nullify previously performed marriage rites...

Every gay person should take this seriously, and we should begin now to organize and implement a campaign to educate and win over voters. We waited too long in California and didn't do enough. We should start now in Iowa...

And if (May All The Gods Forbid This From Happening) were to actually happen and Marriage Equality is eliminated in Iowa. Then all of the same sex couples who got married should have one VERY MASSIVE (or alot of) lawsuits to recover the monies spent on getting a license. The state of Iowa will never be able to afford to pay back all of that money. The state would go broke. If the California Supreme Court allows prop H8 to stay - then All the people that got married before the vote should sue the state to at least return the fee s for the licensing. That is well over 2 million dollars. Then sue the SOB's that said that prop H8 wouldn't affect their marriage. Sue them for the costs of the wedding ceremonies.

I agree with DC. Many people didn't think Calif. Prop. 8 would pass. The trend is in our favor, but we cannot let down our guard.

When they pull this stunt it only strengthens our hand when it comes time for the USSC..

To 'take' right/privileges from a 'group' for no reason other than 'you don't like it' Play right into the constitutional federal provisions and protections.

Chris Sullivan - Iowa is not a "Bible Belt" state! Regardless, we need to stay unified, alert, and take action to ensure this right stays secure. We have a minimum of two years to educate and change opinions - let's not waste a minute.

Fundamental-cases! They just can't stomach the idea of us pervs getting any recognition from the state. Meanwhile, they pray and do nothing to improve the world.... If you could reason with religious people, there would be no religious people.
