Jax, Under the Federal DOMA Gay married couples still get 1,138 less rights then a Straight Married couple, so there’s no true equality yet.

Knowing Iowa… this is probably a way for the government to track and target homosexuals in that state. I fear for them frankly. Be careful.

Congratulations to all the newly married and soon to be married couples in Iowa!!!!

The Des Moines Register has some 160 photos of the folks standing outside today waiting to apply for marriage licenses. What struck me about the pictures was how entirely Midwestern these couples and their supporters looked.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I understood the can of worms that went along with it, but I guess I misunderstood just what the article meant by “is unlikely”. My initial thought was that they were saying the constitutional convention was unlikely to get on a ballot, but perhaps the article meant it was unlikely to pass and be held. I 100% expect the convention to get on the ballot to be voted on, but for some reason when I read that in the article it made me think that the anti-marriage people had lost their momentum and were starting to drop the idea of a convention. I was getting excited for a second.

a constitutional convention is thought unlikely because although it would open up the state constitution to be amended banning gay marriage it would also open the constition to revision on a number of other issues that conservative Iowans are not in favor of (such as legalized drugs). There is the fear that is that door is opened for a ban on same-sex marriage other more serious issues could slip through in the process and the oppotion is probably not likely to want to take that risk, just to stop same-sex couples from marrying in Iowa.
