I find it hard to believe anyone is defending Mr. Floey’s actions. 17 is not 18. There are laws in place for a reason. 18 means 18. Mr. Foley was in a position of authority and influence with these boys. It was the abuse of this influence for the purpose of a sexual nature that is fundamentally wrong no matter whether it be straight or gay in nature. That alone is bad enough with any subordinate of any gender. The fact that the abuse was towards a minor makes it that much worse.

I am gay and I have two children. My oldest is a boy who just turned 18. If I found out a middle aged gay man with influence over my son in a work situation was exchanging sexually explicit emails with him I would, without a doubt “lose it”. His best bet would be for the police to get him before I did.

I have decided with your comment to step outside my role as a single gay man who discreetly and secretly enjoys from a distance the good looks of some younger men and to try to see this Mark Foley problem from the viewpoint of these unsuspecting young men and maybe their parents.

Mark Foley is plain and simple a sexual predator on young men and that his uncontrolled behavior marred what should have been a chance for these young men to see our government and Congress up close. These young men did not come to Washington, DC with the idea of being a sexual playtoy or a recipient of unwanted and inappropriate communications from a sexual predator masquerading as a Congressman.

And I am sure these young mens’ parents see it the same the same way and feel for the targeting of their sons by someone in a position of power.

This Mark Foley out of control is a punch in the eye for the gay community as a confirmation for our enemies that gay or “gay acting” men are predatory on young men and can’t be trusted around young or younger males.

You are correct he was a co-sponsor of the failed ENDA bill in the 108th Congress. He was out of office when it was passed last year.
Foley did vote for DOMA.

Once again dumb*sses, Mark Foley NEVER was an enemy of gays and lesbians. He supported and co-sponsored ENDA, he was one of only a handful of Republicans who voted against the FMA, and if memory serves me correctly he even voted against DOMA back in the 1990s.

All of you ignorant people who know nothing about Rep Foley’s record need to shut the f*ck up.

He might have been a capitalistic Republican closeted chicken hawk, but he was NEVER a legislative homophobe.

Foley’s sin was not so much cavorting with minors in a very hypocritical way but the fact that he was a Republican. I can forgive him for his indiscretions but not for his support of discrimination against gays, support for wars based on lies, support for torture and his overt collusion in bringing the nation to economic collapse. The fact that he continues to wear a yellow tie with blue elephants indicates that he feels no remorse whatsoever for his evil ways. Please ruin him and run him out of the country.

Can’t explain why? Here goes- a closeted Republican politician who likes young guys (no crime there), who votes against gay interests to hide his orientation from his constituents, is so frustrated his lust for available young men has to be expressed somehow. His fantasy life spilled over into email. How’s that?

these young men did not come to Congress with the expectation of some predatory older male Congressman (who has no business being a lawmaker) sending them perverted thinly veiled sexual come-ons.

Mrk Foley is a poor reflection on Congress and on the US government and on our country.
Mark foldy has a probblem that needs professional counselicg ASAP and he needs to stay away from all young males.
