Sexual orientation could be considered relevant in presenting the nature of the case. The two adults never had a romantic relationship, therefore both participated in the child's conception. If he had visitation, and participated in the child's life, then she has no more right to unilaterally terminate his access then she could do that to an ex-husband. There may well be more to the story, but sexual orientation could also be a factor in returning the child to his legal home. To name three countries, Norway, Greece and Jordan have all actively blocked an American parent from any access to their biological children. Given US policy, there are countries which could bar access based on US discrimination against gays, and the consequesnt harm done to that child by interference with family structure. So yes, gay/str8 is relevant in this case.

Raven, you might want to think about your cavalier dismissal of the biological father's interests. Do you know for fact that the man was NOT an active part of the boy's life? If not, then please leave your mind open to the possibility that this is an inappropriate gesture by the birth mother. Maybe the man made an initial commitment of financial assistance, then reneged. There are any number of things that could happen. Maybe she just wants to run away from the actions that brought her child into her life. But please don't lock into a sure statement when much is not known.

Who cares about the parents sexual orientation or that the visitation may or may not have been court approved / ordered. Chances are the little boy has bonded with his father, if not knowing he is his father he has a bond of friendship. Parents need to realize when they keep a child from his other parent or other relatives, they are hurting their child more than the other dult. Unless of course the other adult is physically / emotionally harming tthe child, then that becomes a whole different stoy.

Raven I can see the problem here because the article is a little unclear.
The sperm donor is the person who was looking for a child. He interviewed a few women and chose this lesbian couple. they spent a lot of time with each other and she got pregnant. After the birth she went to her mothers house and told the father that she needed some space alone to bond with the boy. The father gave her her space. After a couple of months he was seeing the boy every other weekend and holidays. Out of the blue he gets a call from her and says that she has seperated from her lover and she needed some time to herself. He understood, but then after a while wanted to see his son. she refused and told him that she didn't want him to see the child ever again.
A court battle ensued, where the mother at times just would not show up. Then the ex-lover filed a complaint against the father saying the man abused her children. A jury found no truth behind the charges. Mean while the mother with their child leaves UK. A judge has ordered her to bring child back but she refuses to respond.

I got this information from British news papers.

I agree with Raven in that the sexual orientation of both the mother and the father are irrelevant. Women enter into arrangements like this all too frequently for a variety of reasons, and their sexuality is irrelevant to the situation. A woman became pregnant using sperm donated by a male friend and bore a child. That's all we need to know.

However, beyond that I completely disagree with Raven. According to UK family law, mothers can seek child support from sperm donor fathers in certain circumstances. This is one such circumstance. Conversely, if the father is liable to pay child support, he is legally entitled to other rights, including visitation and custody.

I'm sorry, Raven, but the circumstances surrounding the birth of the child are irrelevant. This child has an identifiable mother and father, both parents were actively involved in the child's life from birth until the time the mother decided to deny the father access. The father sought legal redress and the mother, seeing that she might have to allow the father visitation rights, fled the country.

I hope they bring her back to this country in handcuffs, give the child to his father and throw the bitch in jail.

First, what does either parent's sexual orientation have to do with this case? A woman (not sure if she was single at the time of her decision for incemination) chose to have a baby. The sperm used was a "donation", and from the phrasing of "allowed visitation", was NOT a legal binding to the child.

So as I'm reading this, a single mom moved out of the UK with her child and now the sperm donor is sending out a legal manhunt for her!?

I do hope there is more legal grounds for this than what is being seen in this short article. If not, then "Hey Joanne! I have a couple spare rooms in my house if ya need them!" And Mark, if your only claims to fatherhood of this child were in her allowing you visitation, I very much hurt for you, but this was a consequence of the arrangement.
