I will never understand why people are so obsessed with stopping gay marriage. Why and how does it effect them? I don’t care about all the kinky things they do in their bedrooms, that is none of my business. I don’t care about all their lying and cheating on their spouses, that is none of my business! Why does everyone feel they have a right to get into everyone else’s lives & business? Most of these same people use Religiion to defend their hatred and prejudice! What ever happened to letting God judge people on whether they do wrong? Or what about the old saying,”live and let live”? Isn’t there more problems in this world than if people want to marry one another? There is War,economic disaster, starvation, rape, murder, robbery, child abuse, spousal abuse, elder abuse, etc etc etc! Get with reality people, you could spend your loving, religious energy doing good in the world where you are needed. Stop being so selfish, prejudiced and spreading hate. Do something good for others who are in need in this world!!!

I totally agree with michaelnDallas! Since each state is SUPPOSED to make their own decision on gay marriage– then we MUST allow each separate state to do just that! These groups (such as the National Organization for Marriage) should not be getting involved in ALL the states in the country and trying to push their religious views on them.
Not only is this a state-by-state issue…we must also remember that there is supposedly a division between church and state in this country. No church should be getting involved in state LEGISLATION!! I’m sure that if the tables were turned and these states were getting involved in church beliefs and policies there would be an outcry from every church in the counry! If I hear one more person quote the bible to me regarding homosexuality or gay marriage, I’m going to scream! Can NO ONE understand that the bible is NOT our book of legal rules in this country? We have the Constitution for that purpose! And it works perfectly well… without invoking anyone’s bible!

Ofcourse the pedophiles (lds)are behind this attack against consenting adults tying the knott!I bloody furiose.My cousin has lived with his partner in st loise for over 20 years.They plan to marry there.Being the closest state that allowes it! Do to the down turn they have been forced to postpone.It is unfair that while majority of hetro couples have not lasted as long as there’s yet the want to deprive them that basic right of LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS!!!

What about if we pushed state governments to stop issuing secular marriage licenses to religious bigots. Let their own cults issue them but while doing so, deny them the federal rights that come with marriage and really reinforce the separation of church and state. In addition, their tax exempt status should also be removed, why should they be entitled to privileges at our expense let alone be above the law that should apply to everyone?

What about Maine as well (Question 1)???? We still have old-laws on the books federally – eg DOMA and DADT. Even though I live in Vermont, I have friends in Iowa who have got married and I am afraid that it will turn into another California (Proposition 8).

at least marriage equality is safe in VT, MA, CT and NH. New Hampshire will have SSM from 1.1.2010 (but still discrimatory for example in NH heterosexuals can get married at 13 for boys and 14 for girls, but soon homosexuals will be allowed to marry, but they can not marry until 18). Why was the heterosexual marriage age not changed and raised to 18 in the recent legislation drafting process???????

Oh thats right we still want to discriminate against homosexuals for fun!!!

I’m very optimistic about this. At the very, and I mean, VERY worst, there might be trouble around 2014, and by then, there will be far many more same-sex couples out there! Couples that ignorant people can witness who are beneficial to society as a whole and make them think “You know what, gay people aren’t so scary or bad!”

Visibility will be going far, far up in states which allow marriage for all, and that visibility will be our key to achieve equality for all in the rest of the nation!
