(New York City) Prosecutors have called a grand jury to investigate a man’s accusation that New York City police attacked and sodomized him.
District Attorney Charles J. Hynes says he decided to call the grand jury based on an early investigation and review of medical evidence in the case of Michael Mineo.Mineo is a 24-year-old tattoo parlor worker who says five police officers attacked him and sodomized him with a radio antenna Oct. 15. He has been in and out of the hospital since then.
New York City police deny Mineo’s accusation, saying he was arrested at a Brooklyn subway stop in an encounter described as a “scuffle.”
I think it’s been posted to a gay website because it’s not just a gay website. It’s a website that deals with a lot of gender and sexuality issues, and the issue with a man being raped is that it breaks the expected gender norms and has important implications as a precedent for how courts may deal with male rape victims in the future.
Rape is an under reported crime and male rape victims are even less likely to report the crime exactly because of issues of the socio-emotional difficulties people have with dealing with issues of sexuality and gender.
Male rape victims are definitely a section in the chapter about rape in just about any psychology of sexuality class you’d take because it plays with gender roles and is a problem for law enforcement.
Well, I see that this story has been posted a second time. I see that the editors did not explain how this story has anything to do with a gay web site.
I’m also wondering that if this turns out to be a hoax if there will be stories posted about the ambulance chaser that represents the man.
This is par for the course with the NYPD. Remember the Haitian that they not only raped with a toilet plunger, but so badly that he needed a colostomy bag?

Why is “sodomized” still being used by the AP as a word to indicate anything other than sodomy? A more appropriate word would be “violated”.
