The current Democratic governor overturned that ancient turn-of-the-century anti-interracial marriage law that Romney dusted off to prevent same-sex couples from marrying in Massachusetts.

--------------------------------

That should have read: "(Romney)...prevented out-of-state same-sex couples from marrying in Massachusetts."

Although, that "moderate" Republican did everything he possibly could to prevent same-sex marriage within the state as well.

"Tisei said his biggest regret was a 1989 vote against a gay civil rights bill. Tisei, who is gay, said he has grown since that vote. He has supported gay marriage."

hmmmmm...running with a "moderate" Republican, Charlie Baker, who hopes to become the governor of Massachusetts, eh?

Don't trust a so-called "Moderate" Republican. Doesn't anyone remember how when Mitt Romney was running for the US Senate against Teddy Kennedy (and lost) he lied big time when he claimed that he was better than ol' Teddy on civil rights for the GLBT community. Romney also criticized the Boy Scouts for their discriminatory policies against Gays, and he proudly proclaimed that he was pro-choice. He spewed the same lies when he ran as governor of Massachusetts.

All of the above he then renounced when he became governor and after he developed national expectations for President.

So...how did that turn out, eh?

I despise weak-kneed backstabbers like Obama and Bill Clinton, but Gov. Deval Patrick has the courage of his convictions -- unlike his friend, the current gutless wonder, in the White House.

Don't agree with Superplus 7 on this. Even though I fled the GOP party forever about 10 years ago, I feel that the Democrat party has had it own share of ethics failures, antigays and imperfections like gay-slow Obama and also that the Democrat has no monopoly on gay party members.

With the hyper-conservatives in the GOP trying to shove all the moderates out of the way so that they can steamroll our country again and again, moderates in the GOP are desperately needed to be a diluting force to the out of control hyper-cons in that party.

While I am no fan of the GOP, nonetheless it is good to make inroads into the heart of the opposition and take over BOTH parties. Drive the homophobes out of the Republican party to where they have no where else to go. The their GOP team is really with us on every issue and will fight for us with the same intensity, then it will mainly be other issues that matter.

Gay? Republican? Aren't those two nouns antithetical? His handlers need to do some serious vetting to see if there are any "pages" in his past.

If you think this is pandering take a look at the democrat party, their entire organization is based on pandering, pandering to women, pandering to African Americas, pandering to gays, common on now. Good for the GOP in finding a good Lt. Gov Candidate.

Couldn't agree more. This is the very definition of "pandering." There is no reason not to have a gay presence everywhere, including in the GOP and I would congratulate Mr. Tisei on his success in politics. Nonetheless, this is a transparent attempt by the Republicans to exploit someone who could reasonably be viewed as a "token." It's unfortunate that Mr. Tisei is willing to subject himself to being exploited in this manner.
