Gingrich: Iowa ruling ‘judicial arrogance’
04.07.2009 4:23pm EDT
(Athens, Georgia) Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says that a recent Iowa Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage is “outrageously wrong.”
Gingrich spoke Tuesday at the University of Georgia’s law school, where he’s been teaching a series on the judicial system.Gingrich says that he was astonished by last Friday’s decision in the heartland state, and predicts a major battle over judicial power. He says the decision demonstrated “judicial arrogance.”
Gingrich is mentioned as a possible Republican presidential contender in 2012. He said Tuesday that any decision on a run was a year away. In the meantime, he’s been keeping a high profile advising Republicans on Capitol Hill.

SCREW HIM !AND HE HAS A GAY HALF SISTER-CANDACE–LETS ASK HER HOW SHE FEELS-NOT HIM !
Tomorrow he will say that the legislature’s vote in Vermont was a miscarriage of justice and urge the losers to go to court to stop same-sex marriage because the Governor should be allowed to veto it.
I wouldn’t count on him running for President. Even the Christians he is trying to cozy up to will find his hypocrisy too much to bear. He apparently has cheated on all his wives, served divorce to one while she was recovering from cancer surgery, and is generally an all-around a–hole.
Well said, Jay.
Newt Gingrich is a total idoit in almost every meaning of the word. The Newtster is pretty much a big joke down here, next to Zell Miller… He is such a windbag! Perhaps Newt and Palin should run together in 2012??? Two fools on a foolish ticket
I love the kettle calling the pot balck. Gingrich married 3 times has the nerve to call gay marriage outrageously wrong. Ill be damned if I will let a two time adulterer dictate to who I may or may not marry. This idiot needs to be called out. Down with conservative liars and yeah for marriage eqality. I did not see any judicial arrogance needed in the Vermont decesion.
Says the man who has been divorced how many times now?
Funny how when the courts rule on something that Republicans agree with, it’s considered “Upholding True Constitutional Standards”, but when it goes against their so-called Family Values it suddenly becomes “Judicial Activism” or “Judicial Arrogance”.
Gingrich, your 15 minutes are up. Go back to Georgia and your dumb alternate-history fiction books. Nobody wants to hear from you any more. Your “Contract” is broken and so are your morals.
Two words for you Newt.
Fortunately, it absolutely doesn’t matter what Newt Gingrich says. If he doesn’t like it, let’s see if he can get appointed to any Supreme Court anywhere. What legislature would ever approve him for such a position?
He’s a bigot, a totally closed-minded neoconservative, a rich fatcat spoiled brat, and a really sore loser. I think America expressed how we feel about those types in the 2008 Presidential and Congressional elections.
He is a dinosaur, soon to be completely extinct.
He obviously hasn’t even read the decision. Only someone with a closed mind on the issue could say what he said. The court is not wrong, it did the same thing the MA, CA, and CT courts did, and at least agreed with the courts in VT and NJ courts in (attempting to) give the same rights to same-sex couples. The courts that are on the wrong side of history are those in NY and MD, where the courts decided that same-sex couples had no right to wed. From now on we really need to call these folks out on their nonsense- it is only judicial activism when the decision goes against the religious conservatives.
Gee, Mr. Gingrich, I didn’t realize you had any judicial experience or had any internal notion of the job description of a supreme court justice.
Plus, I’m pretty sure Supreme Court Justicies have been making big decisions like this since…forever! Like that whole intergration of schools thing. I’m sure those judges were “judicial activists” too, right?
Someone help this man.
Newt who???
he married his teacher at age 19 as part of inner workings of getting out of his vietnam war draft.
he also wrote 22 rubber checks
he used tax payer donations from inner city children donations for his personal and political gains
on top of all of the other things listed. pretty much anyone listening to him is just a crazy loon.
In his defense — GinGRINCH would know all about arrogance — he’s surely an expert at it.
Newt — your 15 minutes of fame is over. Crawl back into your hole and leave the real world alone.
Newt always looked like Benny Hill to me (no insult to the masterful Mr. Hill intended). Newt seems to think that people take him seriously tehse days and I guess there are a handful of morons out there who might – but his days as a major player in any party are over – deservedly so.
