Gay porn student to transfer

(Grove City, Pennsylvania) A student at a small Christian college in Western Pennsylvania said Tuesday that he has lost his appeal to overturn his suspension for appearing in online gay pornography.

John Gechter, 22, a molecular biology senior, is suspended from Grove City College, about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh, for one year.

Gechter said he now intends to transfer to another school to complete the number of credits he needs to graduate. He said he hopes to use the credits to return to Grove City College and graduate next year.

A spokesperson for the college would confirm only that Gechter has withdrawn.

He has not indicated where he intends to complete his studies and says he is still considering a lawsuit against the college.

Gechter earlier this week said he appeared in the online porn because he needed the money to pay his tuition and that he was suspended because of “my occupation. I was not doing anything illegal.”

The college said he was suspended because he “exhibited behavior contrary to the values” of the college.

He began is outside career when he was a sophomore, appearing in about 15 gay porn scenes under the screen name Vincent DeSalvo.

In an interview with The Allied News, he said his secret was discovered by another student who had been surfing the internet.  That student, according to Gechter, then emailed photos of a naked Gechter to other students.

Within hours, almost everyone on the campus had received the email. The following day the pictures came to the attention of college officials.

The non-denominational college says on its website “The ethical absolutes of the Ten Commandments and Christ’s moral teachings guide the effort to develop intellect and character in the classroom, chapel, and cocurricular activities.”

In 2003, the Princeton Review listing of colleges across the country listed Grove City College as the least gay-friendly campus in the country.

    • When John made the decision to go to that school, he agreed to abide by their rules. Going to a private college is a privilege, not a right.

    • Now there’s an example of critical thinking! Except this is an example of the bad kind!

    • Holy smokes! The other student surfing the net is obviously gay, as well. All I can think of is: “Well, you know how bitchy fags can be!” Yikes!

    • This has nothing to do with him being gay. Don’t twist the issue, people. Christian colleges are down on their students doing porn, period.
I do have to wonder about the motivation of the person who turned him in. That doesn’t sound like the actions of a concerned friend. Well, so he goes to another school after breaking the rules at this one. Not a big deal.
To those who have an intense hate for groups/schools/parents they call “bigoted” or “fundie”…you may want to examine why that hate is inside YOU. Just because someone disagrees with your lifestyle does not make them hateful.

    • Wouldn’t it be total justification that when John graduates as a molecular biologist, HE is the one to discover a “gay gene” and then prove that God created homosexuals?

    • I feel anyone gay or straight has to live up to the guideline of the school. This was a Christian school which doesn’t believe in making porn. And if this was the real reason for his suspection. I agree with there ruling. But if it was because he was gay, that would have been totally wrong. There are many wonderful Jesus loving Christians whom are gay.I am a straight female, whom has a lesbian daughter. She is saved as well as her partner they have two children. They attend a gay and lesbian church in Atlanta. And attended one in L.A.when she lived there.I also go to this church.Porn? How about waiting on food tables, being a bartender,or even other types of entertainment that is not sexual,if you want to attend a Christian School. And how about Grants,Etc. I was a single parent raising two children with a low paying job but with me and them working hard my daughter got thru school. As well as my son till he desided to go in another direction.I know it is hard but anyone can do it with God’s help.God loves all of us.Gay, Straight,or Lesbian we are all able to be saved with the blood of Jesus, whom are called Christians afterwards. And as I said I have many dear Christian sisters and brothers that are Gay,Straight and Lesbian. And I pray anyone that has a ear to hear, hears.

    • Do all the porn that you want. That and going to college at the same time its not relevant.

    • I have to say that the college has that right to suspene him. As they would have done the samed to a straight guy or female if they were in a porn.
When you sign up to go to a college you should know that they would be strict on that. Plus I wouold also think that youi have to sign a paper sayying that u follow the code of conduct they request that they have.

    • I am sure that this has been difficult if not embarrassing for the Mr. Gechter, but “WTF” was he thinking in choosing a conservative private Christian school to attend. Learn from this experience and move on. You make your own universe with the choices you make.

    • Someone needs to look into what the Educators/Faculty of the school does on their own time & see how well that construes with School Policy(ies). I bet more than 30% are Gay and are afraid to speak up for the student.

What did that particualr student gain by ’spilling the beans’ on John? An Honorary Master’s Degree?

Does showering in a same-sex locker room make you Homosexual? No, it does not, contrary to what others say. But think of it this way, if it were true, we all would have had a “Homosexual Encounter” in school.

    • Burny asked: Is there something wrong with this guy?

It might seem so. I don’t really understand why this is a story. The guy signed an agreement with the college promising to abide by their code of conduct, etc. He surely must have known that participating in the production of pornography — of whatever orientation — would be considered a breach of the morals clause.

If he didn’t want to conduct himself according to their standards, why didn’t he transfer to a more welcoming environment before? I’ve never seen Grove City College on any list of top tier schools, except for being among the most conservative and homophobic. He surely wouldn’t have been risking his education to go … almost anywhere else.

And, by making $3-5K per weekend of work, he could have afforded to go almost anywhere and pay cash, even if mommy and daddy cut him off.

    • So even if someone is an A student and could go on to do groundbreaking things, they should be kicked out of college and their dreams and ambitions extinguished because they had done porn in the past. Now that’s logical…NOT!

  • Burny Said: May 13th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
    • I do find it funny that Gechter said he intends to go back next year to graduate. After they did this to him one would assume he would try stay as far away from them as possible. Is there something wrong with this guy?

    • Michael – that’s quite true. Additionally, sometimes the only school that is offering a worthwhile scholarship to a financially strapped family – is a “fundie” (especially with sports scholarships). A horrible decision to have to make and many parents who would otherwise not be able to send their child to a 4 year college feel that this is their only choice (even if not especially desirable considering the atmosphere). The religious nutjobs get free-speech at public schools AND deny access to that same rite to others at their private schools. We need private schools that ban religious people!
