Gay news anchor in Miami demoted

(Miami) After allegedly making rude comments about a fellow anchor, gay news anchor Charles Perez was demoted from his position as an evening anchor reports the Advocate.

The WPLG anchor will no longer be working the evening news shift and has been moved to weekend anchoring and reporting.

Perez is also currently battling his ex-partner Dennis Ricardo Peña in court. The two were together for two and a half years after meeting in New York City in 2006.

Perez has in the past worked as a reporter for KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, served as a producer for The Montel Williams Show and The Ricki Lake Show, and anchored American Journal, a national news magazine show.

    • I was a guest on the Charles Perez Show in 1995. I came out on National television before a live studio audience. It was exciting and scary at the same time. He will bounce back from this setback without too much trouble.

    • Why is this news? This is an internal Human Resources affair between Mr. Perez and his employer. There is no gay-angle to this (at least as reported) except for the fact that Mr. Perez is gay. I sure-as-hell wouldn’t want 365gay.com to post an article if I screwed-up with my employer and got my ass kicked for it (he’s lucky he didn’t get canned) and I’m just as gay as Mr. Perez. It is this kind of no-story story that causes people to discount web-based news services. It’s nobody’s business. If you’re having a slow news day, why not just put up a banner saying “No News Today” instead of feeding us this drivel which only serves to embarrass Mr. Perez and gratifies no one.

    • Didn’t he have his own talk show on tv a while back? And wasn’t he also involved with one of the “Real World” guys, I don’t remember which season, but they kept it pretty discreet if it’s the same guy.

    • Whenever writing a news story, you MUST answer the following: who, what, WHEN, HOW, where, and WHY. Try to remember that, for the sake of your own credibility.

    • I’m confused! What does anything have to do about this anchor being gay? If he were straight, would the headline read STRAIGHT ANCHOR DEMOTED? Of course not! Why would you even think this was appropriate and why are more people not outraged by such a stupid headline? HELLO OUT THERE!!!

    • Similar article and photo at advocate.com, and my comments there: maybe Perez got promoted beyond his capabilities. The afore-mentioned shows (R. Lake, Perez, Montel (big homophobe) and Am Journal) were amoung the trashiest of the daytime talk shows of that decade. I recall living in LA, the LA Times did a devastating investigative expose of the Charles Perez Show, with its sleazed-up guests and not-much-better staff and unpaid interns. Yep it was over 12 yrs ago, but I recall it like it was yesterday. NO WALTER CRONKITE HERE…..maybe he can get a job over at Jerry Springer’s, it would be highly suitable.

    • How is this news? Seriously, he wasn’t fired for being gay, he was fired for making rude comments to his co-worker! So seriously, no point in this article being up.

    • Thank you Facebook user … another grain of common sense in the vast desert wasteland.
