Gay men kicked out of El Paso restaurant for kissing

(El Paso) A group of gay men were kicked out of a Chico’s Tacos restaurant in El Paso, Texas because two of the men were kissing, the El Paso Times reports.

The group of men called police to lodge an anti-discrimination complaint after a guard at the restaurant told them to leave. Police spokesman Javier Sambrano said that the officer dispatched to the scene sided with the restaurant and did not file a report about the incident.

“It was a relatively new officer,” Sambrano said.

    • Morgan, get a life. Did you not read the comments of the people who live in El Paso. The straights that kiss and pet can stay, the gays get kicked out. Double standard. A kiss in as Menstruator suggests is appropriate given the separate unequal treatment.

    • Just encourage people to boycott that place so they may close down within 2 months…plain and simple.

    • Menstruator,
You should be reclusive, the world would be a better place if you were, you are too repulsive and too trashy to be seen in public.

    • If I see people all over each other in a restaurant or other public place, I will turn around and leave, don’t care if they are gay or straight. I find that extremely unappetizing and revolting.

I am used to people conducting themselves like proper ladies and gentlemen, sitting upright and eating their meals like mature adults and with them showing respect for other patrons. Heavy petting and heavy kissing belong in the privacy of a home.

    • Whoa!! I’m from El Paso and I am reading some very general and negative statements about this great city. These comments are just as ignorant as the security guards but on opposite sides of the pendulum. We have gay rights supporters in this city and like any other city we also have those who are “still in progress.” Please be careful about making generalizations about one incident. And by the way, to the comment about going to Chico’s after a night of heavy drinking…again a small percentage of the guests fall into that category. I have never seen anyone there behaving in a drunken manner.

    • first I LIVE IN TEXAS. texas is really homophobic but its necessary that we try to create a visible community. we have discriminated against because everyone thinks we dont exist or its a choice. but if they know us ans we are contributing members of society, how can we be ignored and marginilized. No. this is where we have to be. I LIVE IN TEXAS AND I WILL NOT BE KICKED OUT BY HATE AND IGNORANCE.

    • The city council today admonished it’s chief of police for the behavior exhibited by its police officers at the scene and asked them to conduct diversity training, while reminding him that the city has an antidiscrimination policy. it’s not the city, it’s some of it’s ignorant public servants. The city of El Paso is quite open and gracious, it has a thriving gay community and today’s action by the city council members speaks loudly about how serious they are about this matter. Kudos to susie Byrd,a dn Mr. ortega for speaking up in such a public forum.

    • I’d like to address those who thing the solution is just to move to Massachussetts, San Francisco or some other Gay friendly place. The problem is that this kind of discrimination happens everywhere. Why does San Francisco, the gay mecca of the United States, not have their Halloween party in the Castro anymore? Because some crazy guy opened fire. These thing happen everywhere. We as a community need to face it and not run from it.
Also we need to make sure our facts are straight before passing judgement. The citizens of El Paso are generally a tolerant bunch. The Chico’s Tacos restaurant serves people of all backgrounds. I’ve eaten there late with my gay friends with no incidence. The problem lies with the law enforcement’s handling of the situation.

    • Im from EP the other piece of info they left out is that most of patrons that go to this restaurant usually go there after a night of drinking/ect and most of the straight couple are all over each other literally, and I have never seen a guard tell them to get out the times I have been there. This incident is BS, it was totally hate related. yes I know why am I here because my partner is too comfortable here and my attempt to getting out have failed but lets hope this story helps.

    • These instances of intolerance should always be disputed, argued, and called out for the unacceptable homophobic discrimination that it is. The squeaky wheel people! The thing about some straight people is that they want to be more accepting than they really are so that if we call this behavior out, maybe they will be less likely to openly exhibit it next time….maybe..

    • We shouldn’t be forced out of our homes! This kinda pisses me off. Aren’t we over this yet. Good God, El Paso!

    • What kind of kissing was it? They should be kicked out if it was too much or intense of PDA, straight or gay.
