Gay men attacked on Ore. beach
03.24.2009 11:46am EDT
(Seaside, Oregon) Police are searching for at least three men who attacked two gay men on the beach in Seaside, Oregon. Both victims were left unconscious by the beatings.
The names of the two victims are being withheld, but police told KPTV that both men are from Washington state. The two men were on the beach near downtown Seaside around 3 a.m. with a group of people around a beach fire. When the two got up to walk to the water, they were assaulted.
When the men regained consciousness, their attackers were gone. The pair helped each other to a nearby hotel and then transported to hospital.
Police told the station they are treating the attack as a hate crime and are appealing for witnesses – particularly the other people who were with the men prior to the beating.
Local residents told KPTV that Seaside is not known as unfriendly toward gays.
“It’s a small town. Only time it gets crazy is when there’s a lot of tourists and people in town,” Evan White told the station.

I would love for some homo haters to come up to myself or my friends acting tough. They would feel real stupid getting their asses kicked by a couple of fags!
When are you people going to leave the US? Soon I hope. You are a drag, a virus on society that keeps making this country sicker and sicker. Go away [gays]. Go back to the closet where you came from or back to Europe. You are all sickening.
Michelle N Ken’s post had everything to do with the topic. What’s with the snide reply to his post? Ken is right America’s right wing nut members keeps this country in the dark ages in many ways. They’re cowards just like the ones that beat these students.
Debby We’re not going any where. Deal with us or deal with the consequences {breeder} You belong at some wing nut web sight, your comments are not appreciated here.
Go visit Sara Palin or Joe the PLUNGER
Oh don’t for get to flush!
Those in the social conservative and religious right need to think of this when they defend their attempts to raise fear against the LGBT community as “free speech”. There is an old Christian saying: “Sow a thought and reap an action.” Fear causes hate causes violence. Hate is not a Christian value. Encouraging fear is not a traditional value.
Actually, gay men need to arm themselves. If your state allows concealed weapons permits, try to get one. We’re being attacked and even murdered left and right across the country these days, so it’s time we take steps to protect ourselves, since law enforcement and the justice system can’t do anything to save us once we’re dead.
If we all start making a concerted effort to arm ourselves against gay bashers, they’ll probably think twice before attacking any of us, because they’ll never know which of us are armed and which aren’t. Since our political leaders have taken such great steps to ensure our being bashed with all their anti-gay rhetoric, we certainly can’t depend on them to try to protect us. Hell, those same leaders are usually big on second-amendment rights, so why not use them? What’s left to do but to protect ourselves?
I think the folks at Pink Pistols have it right.
As with other beatings, murders, etc. that happen to minorities, every clergyperson, politician, and citizen who has ever uttered hate words against any minority is just as responsible for this one as the ignorant thugs who actually did the beating. You preach hate and of course the thugs are encouraged to more violence. Probably the most sad are the clergy spewing hate from the pulpit in the name of “Christian Regigion.” Hate is NOT a Christian trait! Thinking people know this—the easily led and ignorant don’t, and these brutal crimes are the result.
Ken Hi guy…Capital Punishment (Death Penalty) is “barbaric”? But 50 or 60 years in a cell with NO HOPE of ever getting out, every day the same routine, the result madness! Or, cruel and unusual punishment? Which BTW the Supremes have ruled the death penalty is not! I say “kill them all-god will know its own!” Care to step to the front Debby?
I hope they do catch the “animals” that did this, but if it’s like everywhere, especially in the U.S.A., they’ll probably just get a smack on the hand and community service.
Armed Guys Don’t Get Bashed.
Armed Gays Don’t Get Bashed.
It is sad that in 2009 there is still so much hate going around. It disgusts me! They [homophobics] think that we are after theam and we are not. We just want to live our lives and be happy like everyone else. Geesh!!
I hope to God that they find the dirtbags that did this. That is wrong that they would assalut someone because of their sexual orientation. They deserved to be imprisoned!!!
They did to broadcast this nationaly because their is still naivity in the nation’s views on gaybashing. It happens and it NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED
As a native of Portland, i am aware of the hate that is in that state. I was cloaked so most didn’t have the mentality to realize I was gay. They need to raise the bar and start prosecuting on the federal levels. Sue the state for not enforcing federal hate crime laws and maybe they will get the point. I hope these guys are okay.
Ken,
I read just not long ago about a psycho chopping a man’s head off on a bus and cutting his body up into parts?
Also, funny thing is when I was in Toronto a few times, I had incidents. I heard a guy on a bike and a guy that almost hit him in a car, yelling obscenity and calling each other “FAGGOTS”
so you may wanna tone down the “greater than thou” I’m from Canada bit! Really.
You all didn’t get Marriage equality “LONG AGO” not like the Netherlands and Denmark. Even there they have their NUTS!
I also have friends from Vancouver that say the same thing that Kerry said.
Furthermore, with marriage equality in Canada, you all didn’t have your rights up for vote by the masses… Good thing for you because you would NOT have it if so, I can GUARANTY that! Most of Canada would have voted against it as well!
Nonetheless, America is backwater with the Religious Taliban the root of most of its backwardness!
Hey anti-American Taliban. Just for the record, I’m not from Canada. Never even been there. So my words aren’t “holier-than-thou” in any way. I was just pointing out that AFTER gay marriage was allowed in Canada, the sky didn’t fall. Society didn’t collapse. What happened there is an exemplary tale for all those small-minded dimwits living in the US who are preventing that country from achieving greatness and becoming a true world leader. A leader in morlaity and not military might. In the area of human rights for all citizens, it is far, far behind many other western countries. It is not “the greatest”, nor a “world leader” in this context. And while hatred is so pervasive in US society, the country will never emerge from the quagmire it finds itself in.
And as for homophobic violence in Canada, well, that had nothing whatsoever to do with my post. Where did that come from? There is homophobic violence all over the world. Just as there is racial violence, culture violence, religious violence, gender violence, etc, etc, etc.
