(Washington) President Barrack Obama on Thursday named Jeffrey S. Crowley, Senior Research Scholar at Georgetown University’s Health Policy Institute, to be director of the Office of National AIDS Policy.
“Jeffrey Crowley brings the experience and expertise that will help our nation address the ongoing HIV/AIDS crisis and help my administration develop policies that will serve Americans with disabilities,” the President said in a statement.“In both of these key areas, we continue to face serious challenges and we must take bold steps to meet them. I look forward to Jeffrey’s leadership on these critical issues.”
In addition to his role at Georgetown, Crowley is a Senior Scholar at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, Georgetown University Law Center.
He is recognized for his capacity to integrate public health research with political strategy to achieve policy changes. Crowley has authored numerous reports and policy briefs, and has testified before various Congressional Committees and the Institute of Medicine on several occasions. His primary areas of expertise are Medicaid policy, including Medicaid prescription drug policies; Medicare policy; and consumer education and training.
Crowley previously served as the Deputy Executive Director for Programs at the National Association of People with AIDS. While at NAPWA, he helped implement several key initiatives including The National HIV Testing Day Campaign and the Ryan White National Youth Conference.
Crowley has spent the last fourteen years working to improve access to health and social services for people living with HIV/AIDS, people with physical and mental disabilities, low-income individuals, and other vulnerable populations.
He received his Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, and his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Kalamazoo College. He is also an alumnus of the United States Peace Corps, where he served as a Volunteer/High School Science Teacher at school in Swaziland.
“The announcement of Jeffrey Crowley signals that HIV/AIDS issues will be an integral part of health care reform in the Obama Administration,” said Joe Solmonese, President of the Human Rights Campaign. “Throughout his campaign, President Obama called for the development of a bold national AIDS strategy.”

No matter what Obama does the gay community keep calling him names and blasting him. We have vowed not to vote for him again. Why? Because he let Waren say the prayer and seriously conspired with HBO not to air bishop Gene’s prayer.AND, we have SUDDENLY learned that he supports civil unions as opposed to gay marriage. So, Mr. President, no matter what you do to please us, we will never find the good in you.We will always focus on things about you we don’t like. SORRY.
suddenly we learned??? it’s been known for some time since before the elections were held that there were only 2 presidential candidates who supported marriage equality, Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich, neither of whom made so we are forced to go with second, best AKA as Obama.
It’t been no secret for for quite some time that Obama was never a supporter of same-sex marriage. He was for civil unions and nothing else.
Sorry on this one guys. We have a choice – an unrepentant republican party who became the supporters of segregations remnants when the civil rights bill was passed in 1965(?), and who also hate gays, for it gives their maggot churches some more ‘hitler feed’ to keep people in line and bring in the money.
Obama unfortunately does not have absolute control, especially in the senate, and there are a lot of relatively conservative dems also.
But what Obama is trying to do is create a new FDR revolution for all sorts of unmet needs in this nation.
Those who speak out against him are, I am sorry to say this, are not looking at the realistic big picture and how politics works (I hold low level elected office). It is a process that is taking place, it will happen, but we must be ultra careful not to fall for what the repugnicans want us to do – fight amongst oursselves, while the combination of the christian fascists and the superrwealthy god of greed believers continue to try to take over this nation.
It is all about helping the gay community become more and more active in politics, not biting off our noses to spite our face, and going back to the neo-nazis who run the repugnican party.
The war on religious terrorism needs to be fought here at home as well. And you can’t win it by blowing up the earth, so to speak, to kill your enemy.
lets not put president obama on full blast, people should have their own opinion and they still will be wrong!let him who is without sin cast the first stone! the president is still a man. who puts his pants on one leg at a time, he also dont have a heaven or hell for no one’ let no man or woman be ashamed of who they are! or what they perfer, let no man or woman pass judgment! for they will surly be judged themselves, for we are all gods children sent here to learn from each other let no man or woman put asunder !!!
Okay, guys. Get this clear. They are PUBLIC SERVANTS. They work for US. Obama is an ELECTED office holder — not a a messiah…not a god…not anything but a PUBLIC SERVANT.
As such, they represent us. If they do not represent us, then we throw them out. We owe them nothing. They owe us their positions in government. The Democrats must earn the votes of the GLBT community; the Democrats are NOT entitled to anything from us if they do not represent our concerns.
Our equality is our foremost concern(as it would be for any other American citizen with an ounce of dignity). If you think anything is more important than your full and equal citzenship in this country then you are a self-loathing eunuch and you don’t deserve equal rights.
No Democrat or any other public servant owns our vote. They work for us, if they don’t do the job for us…including the GLBT community (afterall, we pay their salaries) then we fire them.
In the meanwhile, if they keep ignoring us in the GLBT community, start looking for a third party alternative and let them know that you’re looking. That will get their attention really fast.
In a close election, the Dems lose without us. Make them earn our votes. Otherwise, you are all fools who deserve what you get.
I think it is phoenominal that for once we are reconized and put in a position of power instead of being treated like lepers i am proud to be gay and I enjoy living with my girlfriend and sharing a life with her i just wish it would be recognized by all of society so we could live like normal individuals.
