I am on my own journey in life just as anyone else is. Never once have I stated that a church and faith is a requirement to be a good and charitable person. It's whats in your heart. Never once have I said one has to be anything. But I speak up for the good in my faith mostly because I want to give courage to other gay Christians to not fear being upfront about their own experiences in life even they may also incur unpopularity.

I know that I am unpopular here, because I sometimes have a contrasting point of view and my life experiences don't always mesh with those of others here and sometimes being gay is the only common denominator, but maybe that unpopularity was meant to be.

Every time I hear about incidents such as this, it just makes me sick that we live in a society that still allows such acts of barbarism against gay people, or for that matter the attempted legalization allowing a husband to rape his wife as is happening in Afghanistan! It seems to me that these extremist religions have gotten totally out of hand in inciting the masses to murder and other forms of torture and discrimination, and therefore should be outlawed and driven from the face of the earth. People should find peace and comfort in their spiritual beliefs not the fear or torture that these extremists profess to be the word of God.

Antonio,

Sunni and Shiite are religious, not racial, designations. Zoroastrians and people from Abrahamic faiths need no real reason to hate gays. They have mythologies that justify their hatred.

The purpose of a secular society is to diminish conflict between religions. However, the adherents of many religions have forgotten this and are all to comfortable asserting their will and supremacy on the rest of society.

Perhaps, religious conflict will serve to remind religious people of the value of a secular society.

BTW, I don't limit this principle to Muslims. I would rather see Protestants and Catholics attacking each other in the legal and political system rather than attacking gays. Perhaps, the conflict would remind them that they, too, have to be protected from the tyranny of the majority.

Don't hate me for being gay; hate me for being Jeffersonian.

Sheik Ammar al-Saadi's statement that.. “Such people have brought shame on Sadr city people,” he told The Associated Press. “The blame falls on the security forces who do little to combat this phenomenon..."

The only people who bring true, genuine, unquestionable shame of this city are people LIKE HIM!

Brainwashed nutjobs who incite people to hatred and violence. Pure evil.

Is it possible that religon is neither good nor evil? It is what people do with or without it? Is it possible that the original founders of these movements really wanted to improve peoples lives ? But somehow it instead has become just a business or a way to control the masses? Is it possible to focus on faith, hope and love ? Religon is easily turned into a weapon and that is why the founding fathers wanted separation of church and state.
